We plan to open additional schools in future years as we grow to nearly 4,000 seats TK-12 in the Bay Area.


Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced leader to join our team as a Special Education Instructional Coach. You will build strong relationships with the teachers you coach in order to drive the achievement of all students. You will use Caliber teacher evaluation rubrics to drive the professional growth of your teachers. You will integrate social-emotional framework into coaching conversations to drive equitable support of all students.


Essential Job Functions:

Coaching

  • Provide coaching to educational specialists and/or paraprofessionals (instructionally and behaviorally) across the network
  • Support educational specialists/ paraprofessionals with long term planning and Scope and Sequencing
  • Model lessons in classrooms for the educational specialists/ paraprofessionals you support.
  • Support the instructional development of educational specialists/ paraprofessionals (instructionally and behaviorally)
  • Assist educational specialists/ paraprofessionals with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support instruction (classroom, small group, push-in), behavior management, planning, and interventions that target both academics and behavior
  • Work closely with Special Education Leadership Team to develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs
  • Implement and be a model for staff in Restorative Practices
  • Support educational specialists in their development and growth of writing Individualized Education Plans (IEPS) including writing appropriate goals and progress monitoring
  • Support educational specialists in their development of standardized assessments and writing legally defensible academic evaluation reports

Data

  • Conduct and support staff with Data Meetings
  • Support educational specialists/paraprofessionals and work with Leadership Teams and SPED Team to use data to improve instruction on all levels
  • Identify trends of students with IEPs and support network wide development and strategies for students with IEPs
  • Support and train educational specialists/ paraprofessionals in their development of gathering formal and informal data

Leadership Coaching

  • Prepare objectives and methods for SpEd CPs and SPED Team meetings facilitation
  • Participate in Special Education Leadership Team Meetings Network wide
  • Working with educational specialists to lead paraprofessionals
  • Collaborate with Program Specialists regarding staff they are coaching
  • Collaborate with Gen Ed Instructional Coaches with classroom instruction

This job operates in a school/classroom environment. This position classification involves sitting with some walking and standing for extended periods of time. Staff may be required to lift, pull or push objects approximately 50 pounds or less. The employee will encounter exposure to ill students. The position requires mobility to climb, kneel, stoop, crawl, reach and bend, and accurate perceiving of sound; near and far vision with the ability to read small print; depth dexterity; and the providing of oral information and direction. The position is primarily located at a school site with outside supervision and some district office visits. The employee will frequently work independently with high work volume and tight deadlines.


Qualifications

Required:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Other Qualifications:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Within 60 days of hire, provision of TB (tuberculin) clearance, as mandated by the California Education Code
  • CA DOJ and FBI fingerprint (Livescan) clearance prior to the first day of school
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination OR approved medical or religious exemption


Preferred:

Education:

  • Valid California State Teaching Credential or equivalent and transferable teaching license from another state

Experience:

  • 4 or more years of teaching experience, preferably in a high performing school driving excellent student outcomes.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Experience integrating technology into the classroom.
  • Experience in teaching/ coaching in special education.
  • Preferred experience with social-emotional learning and restorative practices.
  • Preferred experience leading a grade level or content team.
  • Experience leading professional development and formally/informally coaching other teachers
