The Application Developer works within the Student Accounts Office to develop, implement, and maintain user applications for the Banner Student System, MyPacePortal, and third-party software applications. The incumbent will apply in-depth knowledge of a variety of programming languages, operating systems, and computer hardware platforms to efficiently convert user requests into technical specifications. They will serve as an active member of the department by contributing to all decisions relating to the day-to-day operation of the Banner ERP and Student Module; resolving user problems; interpreting computing and database related policy and procedures and exceptions to the same; recommending policy for Banner security and data reporting as well as software or systems changes to meet business needs.

Position Duties
  • Develops application project time lines for assigned projects which will include, the overall time line to reach specific goals, statements of work, service level agreements, or other type of program specifications to reach the desired results, identification of milestones, or impediments to reach the desired goal.
  • Provides the most efficient best practices in programming for coding applications. This is not only limited to actual coding, but to testing, debugging, contacting users to provide/identify sufficient test data, and receiving the appropriate sign off for Production ready applications.
  • Develops new, as well as, maintain existing programs which includes research, analysis, development, coding, quality assurance, backup and recovery procedures for testing. This can span over several areas where team collaboration is essential.
  • Provides back up support for any application within the current enterprise wide system in case of application failure, or emergency enhancements.
  • Assists with maintaining and updating Student Accounts Office website(s).
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or related computer or information system area) or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 3 years application programming and systems development.
  • Broad knowledge of various programming/scripting languages, databases, operating systems, and frameworks; PHP, Python, JavaScript, SQL, Linux (command line), HTML preferred.
  • Must be fluent in project management tenets with a demonstrated ability to efficiently manage projects from start to finish.
  • Experience in a higher education environment with Ellucian Banner suite of products is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with student services (student accounts, student records, and advising functions), and their reporting needs a plus.

Work Hours
Monday – Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. or 10:00am – 6:00pm; some weekends and additional hours as needed during peak periods.

Salary Range
$65k-$70k
