QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree
Massachusetts Administrator or Supervisor/Director license.
Five years of teaching/supervision in the field of Special Education
Working knowledge of Special Education regulations (Federal and State)
Such alternatives to the above qualification as the Superintendent/ Director of Student Services may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services and Special Education
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Director of Student Services Shall:
- Develop local policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
- Serve as Team Facilitator for referrals, meetings, IEP documentation development, and any necessary follow up for all students educated out of district.
- Conduct performance evaluations for team facilitators, related service providers, and other staff as appropriate in accordance with the MA Educator Evaluation system
- Assists the Director of Support Services with the overall development, implementation, evaluation and revision of special education programs in the Amesbury Public Schools; maintain program descriptions
- Conduct on-going assessments to identify needs within the district for use in planning of budgets and special education programs
- In collaboration with the Director of Student Services, participates in the planning and implementation of professional learning opportunities for general education teachers, special education teachers, service providers, paraprofessionals, and school administration as determined necessary through informal and formal data collection related to student services.
- Oversee transportation services for students who receive transportation (IEP, 504, homeless)
- Supervises and supports the Team Facilitator role by ensuring comprehensive understanding of the laws and regulations related to special education including compliance with IEP development of content and timelines.
- Schedule regular monthly meetings with special education teachers and related service provider; provide supervision and guidance
- Oversee the compliance of record keeping as it pertains to IEPs and 504s
- Support staff with appropriate restraint and time-out procedures; provide monthly oversight of related data collection
- Involve SEPAC and community in the development, implementation and evaluation of the District’s Special Education programs; attends SEPAC meetings,
- Work cooperatively with building administration and staff in planning, implementing, and managing programs and services for students with disabilities
- Embrace and encourages the acceptance of diversity and fosters a safe workspace
- Ensures that services are delivered in accordance with each student’s IEP, including evaluation procedures, specially designed instruction, and related services.
- Participates on district MTSS teams.
- Performs all other duties assigned by the Director of Student Services and Special Education
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 210 work days; $100,000 - $110,000; salary, work year and working conditions determined through individual contract
