Position Summary: The incumbent will work with the Editorial Director of the Library of Arabic Literature series. As assistant editor, responsibilities will include: liaising with editor-translators, copy-editors, proofreaders, indexers, other freelancers, the Digital Production Manager, and the paperback designer; assisting with the review of translations; maintaining spreadsheets and production schedules; drafting catalog and jacket copy; administering payments process for consultants and vendors and completing other editorial duties as needed; paperback cover image research; maintaining the LAL website, blog, and Twitter account; drafting and producing communications, and arranging special events on behalf of LAL. Qualifications: Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Middle East Studies or related field

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree Masters degree in English, Middle East Studies or related field

Required Experience:
2+ years 2 years of publishing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Experience:
xperience working for a university press. Familiarity with written Arabic preferred

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent organization, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail, knowledge of MS Word and basic spreadsheet applications

Additional Information: In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $58,500.00 to USD $97,100.00.
