Essential Job Duties
The
Assistant Finance Officer position will be the primary point of contact for finance and research administration needs within the Center for Geospatial Analytics, which includes managing multiple ledger types, developing long-term financial plans, initiating and supporting financial actions within the Center for Geospatial Analytics (CGA), and serving as a liaison between the CGA and other units.
In coordination with the Director and Associate Director of Operations, develop budgets and forecast projections, compile and provide regular financial reports to the leadership team, and prepare for project closeouts. Oversee spending on state-appropriated, gifts, trusts, and endowed accounts to ensure compliance with rules and regulations. Initiate purchasing and accounting transactions (purchase requisitions, journal vouchers, interdepartmental transfers, etc.). Monitor all financial activity, respond to financial inquiries and provide options for resolution. Reconcile all financial transactions of the Center, including purchase cards, travel, and MarketPlace orders. Work closely with the College Business Office on these objectives.
Monitor, analyze, and make recommendations for position budgets and salary distributions. Oversee the financial aspects of student appointments and serve as a resource to the Center for university and college policies related to the financial management of academic programs. Initiate summer salary and other additional compensation actions; serve as a resource for payroll-related inquiries; and hire and supervise work-study students as needed. Responsible for reconciling all wages and salaries.
Responsible for assisting with the financial administration of research projects, including budget-related tasks, serving as a liaison between various parties, and overseeing and maintaining Center policies for research awards. Work closely with the College Research Office, as well as, other research offices across campus, to assist with reporting, collecting data, project modifications, closing out projects, and other post-award research tasks. Forecast project spending and take corrective action as needed to maintain project spending objectives.

Other Responsibilities
- Serve as backup for initiating graduate appointment actions. Interface and cross-train other Center administrative personnel on common tasks to ensure continuity of services in the case of planned or unplanned absences.
- Field, assess, and resolve procedural questions and issues as requested by Center faculty, staff, and students. Serve as backup contact for facilities-related issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Require post-baccalaureate credentials plus 1-2 years experience; a bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

- Ability to research, analyze and summarize complex data while delivering accurate results under tight deadlines;
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential issues;
- Ability to work independently but also work as a collaborative team member and play an integral part in creating a positive work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in finance or accounting within higher education or governmental environments.
- Experience with processing transactions in PeopleSoft Financials, or similar financial software.
