Under general direction of the Park Manager, assists in managing the operations of Cattail Cove State Park a highly utilized recreational park with varied features. The Park Assistant Manager roles provide leadership and support to park staff. They supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for developing and implementing standards and training for safety and customer service, and will provide policy input for safety, customer service, public park operations and park staffing for the public use of the various areas of the facility. The position conducts and/or may assist in performance evaluation reviews, hiring, and all associated administrative duties relating to assigned staff.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays and possibly relocate to another state park seasonally and/or permanently on a periodic basis.
  • Living on park may be required.
Job Duties:
  • Administers the operations of Cattail Cove State Park.
  • Operates with a business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit that focuses on revenue generation, cost effectiveness, and innovation.
  • Responsible for coordination special events.
  • Supervises subordinate staff and/or volunteers in same tasks.
  • Responsible for the performance of administrative duties to include: balancing daily journal transaction report, revenue collection, recaps and bank deposits.
  • Use computer based reservation system to maintain reservations and collect revenue.
  • Assists Park Manager in maintain the park’s budget.
  • Processes special use permits.
  • Sells commercial passes.
  • Operates contact station and trains subordinate staff on proper operational procedures.
  • Responsible for managements and completion of park projects within established time frames.
  • Monitors park construction projects through site visits, coordination with development staff and Regional Manager.
  • Establish maintenance standards to meet needs of park resources, visitors and staff.
  • Responsible for procurements activities and purchasing supplies.
  • Ensures all procurement activity complies with Arizona State laws and statutes and Arizona Procurement Office policies.
  • Completes RTP and purchases using contracted vendors whenever possible.
  • Keeps track of supply inventory and replaces supplies in a timely manner.
  • Creates and monitors employees schedules and approves leave requests.
  • Evaluates employees through MAP process and monitor subordinates staffs work habits.
  • Seeks training for employees that improve the chances for betterment and promotion throughout State Parks Agency.
  • Participate and represent agency in a variety of capacities; training seminars, internal Arizona State Park committees and public outreach.
  • Collaborate and foster good public relations with park visitors.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.

Knowledge:
  • Good working knowledge of park/lodge operational needs, quality standards, visitor safety and employee safety standards.
  • Current practices and methods in the protection of resources in a park.
  • Interpretation techniques/philosophy.
  • Grounds keeping.
  • Agency vision, mission, goals and objectives.
  • Applicable federal, state and agency laws, statues, policies and procedures.
  • CPR & First Aid.
  • Building repair and construction concepts.

Skill:
  • Training in day-to-day functions of a high-profile recreational park.

  • Assigning work assignments and priorities.
  • Facility and landscape maintenance.
  • Addressing visitor complaints, emergency situations and other stress work issues, while maintaining a courtesy and professional demeanor.

  • In the use of electronic office equipment – (PC’s, cash registers, point of dale systems, etc.)

  • Performs all necessary activities associated with employee performance, development of work expectations and opportunities to exceed standards.
Selective Preference(s):

One year of experience equivalent to a Park Ranger Senior, OR three years of experience equivalent to a Park Ranger 2. A Bachelor's degree in Park Management, Natural Resource Management, History, Geology, Ecology, Recreation Planning or a closely related field may substitute for one year of the Park Ranger 2 experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver’s license appropriate to assignment.
Water Certification Grade 1 (may be required.)
