PURPOSE OF POSITION
:
The Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences works in partnership with the Dean to focus on implementing the vision for an integrated Division. This position supports and compliments the work of the Dean, which includes planning, assessment, organizing, and managing operational changes and instructional efforts that promote student success within the Division's nine departments. The Associate Dean provides significant leadership and support for the administrative operations of these departments, including supervising the administrative assistants, and for supporting the operations of the College as a whole.
With significant responsibility for curriculum, assessment, student conduct, unit planning, and division-related grants, this position is accountable to both internal and external partners and for shared College outcomes related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as well as other components of mission fulfillment. Fostering a culture of shared governance and encouraging collaboration across the College and within the Division among staff, faculty, and administrators to actively build consensus and facilitate equitable access for all students to College services are also essential aspects of this role.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
:
1. Leadership (30% of Time)
1.1. Create and maintain an open, collaborative, and inclusive College environment focused on student learning and student success. Support institutional collaborative decision-making processes and institutional initiatives. Provide leadership for institutional and statewide initiatives.1.2. Serve on designated college-wide committees and/or needed workgroups and work with other administrators in a team environment. Work collaboratively with Division personnel and other College faculty and staff to facilitate excellence, efficiency, sustainability, and continual improvement in operational processes, support for instruction, and service to students. 1.3. Support institutional collaborative decision-making processes by coordinating team participation for specific projects, including planning, assessment, budgeting, facilitating, documenting, and redirecting team efforts as appropriate.1.4. Provide documentation for decisions made within teams for project management and identify outcomes for reporting and program improvement goals that align with the College's strategic priorities. 1.5. Participate in leadership development and team building activities. Work with faculty and staff to foster a cooperative culture, resolve conflict, promote better communication, and practice team-building skills. Support staff attendance at in-service and other college-wide activities.1.6. Collaborate to envision, design, implement, assess, and continuously improve operational processes for the College.1.7. Work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the College to implement the strategic plan and institutional activities. Provide leadership to support the integration of assessment, planning, and budgeting within the division and its departments. 1.8. Promote the college's commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Actively contribute to a work environment that embraces diversity and diverse perspectives and seeks to build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect.
2. Operations Management and Support (30% of Time)
2.1. Provide leadership for the Division Course Outline Review process as a subgroup of the Curriculum Committee. Orient and assist division faculty with making changes through the curriculum processes.2.2. Work with Department Chairs as a resource for developing budgets, scheduling, or other operational issues.2.3. Work with Department Chairs to develop new and innovative ways to attract students into the Arts & Sciences Division programs. Assist in the development of marketing materials leading to program recognition and growth.2.4. Assist in facilitating committee assignments and Division representation in college-wide activities and initiatives.2.5. Provide supervision to classified staff including scheduling, evaluating performance, initiating disciplinary action, responding to employee complaints, and effectively recommending various personnel actions.2.6. Work with Department Chairs to provide administrative oversight, coordination, and tracking of part-time faculty evaluations.2.7. Administer, oversee, and coordinate division grant activities and other institutional initiatives with internal and external partners. Develop and administer budgets, expenditures, and contracts for areas of responsibility. Monitor staffing levels and grant team coordination.2.8. At the direction of College Safety and in collaboration with the COOP Team, create and maintain a DASC Continuity of Operations Plan.
3. Student Conduct (15% of Time)
3.1. Actively participate in weekly CARE Team meetings to help evaluate students of concern and to support instructors and students with de-escalating issues and implementing disciplinary action as appropriate.3.2. Collect and maintain all student disciplinary files and materials in a secure environment.3.3. Serve as the Arts & Sciences Division Conduct Officer responsible for responding to student behavior issues and student complaints in a timely and effective manner and supporting instructors with resolving classroom management issues.3.4. Work collaboratively with Conduct Team to create, maintain, and update the College's Student Code of Conduct and student conduct policies, procedures, and processes.3.5. Provide leadership for student conduct at the college and division levels and serve as a division liaison to other CARE Team representatives such as the Disability Resource Center, Counseling Center, Title IX Coordinator, and College Safety.3.6. Serve as the liaison between instructors, students, and related offices on campus to facilitate emotionally charged student complaint resolution.
4. Internal and External Relationships (15% of Time)
4.1. Actively contribute to a work environment that embraces diversity and diverse perspectives and builds constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect. Facilitate change within a cooperative, committed culture that supports efforts to establish and accomplish individual, department, Division, and College goals. 4.2. Respond to inquiries from College departments, educational institutions, the community, students, and/or external agencies.4.3. Effectively represent the College in community service activities and partnerships, statewide committees, and task forces.4.4. Establish and maintains communication and cooperative working relationships with community partners and the public.
5. Assessment and Accreditation (10% of Time)
5.1. Assist in the development of Division planning efforts in line with the College's strategic plan. Provide leadership and support for accomplishing accreditation, program reviews, and program assessment activities. Engage in best practice research and evidence-based analysis. Work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the Division to complete unit planning, program assessment, and accreditation reporting requirements.5.2. Work collaboratively with Division colleagues to implement their assessment plans, programmatic accreditations, and institutional accreditation activities.5.3. In collaboration with colleagues, complete internal assessment and external accreditation reporting requirements. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations related to instruction.5.4. Work with Division faculty to clarify, align, or revise program learning outcomes.5.5. Work with faculty to conduct market research and analysis related to the expansion of existing cohorts and the creation of new programs.5.6. Work with faculty and Department Chairs to use assessment data for unit planning and program improvement planning.5.7. Participate in the college-wide Assessment Committee to provide direction and boundaries for academic program assessment practices, develop recommendations regarding policies and practices that involve assessment, and to promote and maintain faculty governance of the assessment process.5.8. Work with College Deans, faculty, and staff to ensure adherence to NWCCU accreditation guidelines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
:
Master's degree and three to five years of relevant work experience, including management and supervisory experience, two years of which should be leadership experience in postsecondary education. Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described.
Ability to exemplify traits that reflect the College's culture, including integrity, a customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility and a willingness to change.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
:
Teaching experience with a diverse student body such as found in a community college; supervision experience within a collective bargaining environment; experience working in a team-based environment using a collaborative working style; advanced interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills; experience responding to and mediating conflict and applying polices appropriately for conflict resolution

A driver's license valid in the State of Oregon or an acceptable means of alternate transportation.

WORKING CONDITIONS
:
The position requires minimal (20-40%) ability to use dexterity and fine motor skills assemble, build or repair machines or other objects. Frequent (51-80% of the time) use of office equipment.
The position requires minimal (5-20%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc. Movements required to complete work are not difficult, and only require some degree of agility and hand eye coordination.
The work environment is protected with only some occasional hazards or obstacles (20-40%). There is a moderately low level of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are occasionally uncomfortable, with moderate (20-40%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Position may have some responsibility for driving.
