The Associate Director will work closely with faculty, student and staff members participating in the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy @Penn (PICI@Penn) alliance program.
The Associate Director will support the evaluation and commercialization of new technologies and manage complex intellectual property and agreement matters arising from this large multiple institution consortium / alliance with a focus on the development of new cancer immunotherapies technologies arising from research conducted by the PICI@Penn members and their collaborators. The Associate Director will have responsibility for managing complex intellectual property and technology transfer tasks including being a key liaison between PCI, PICI@Penn's members and their research teams and other academic institutions involved in the PICI consortium. Duties will include ensuring compliance with all intellectual property aspects of the alliance agreement, negotiating permitted third party agreements to support the research in PICI@Penn researcher's laboratories. The Associate Director will also support and coordinate relevant education as it relates to intellectual property contractual obligations for PCI, PICI@PENN members/collaborators, and other academic institutions involved in the PICI consortium. The Associate Director will also participate in internal PICI@Penn research and clinical development meetings with member researchers and project members to help identify new intellectual property being developed aswell as provide feedback and guidance to faculty and staff on intellectual property and contractual issues related to the PICI@Penn agreement(s). The position is contingent upon funding.
Job Responsibilities
Manage key intellectual property and technology transfer contractual activities between faculty, students, fellows and associated researchers working as members ofPICI@Penn and Central PICI. This includes education, due diligence review of relevant intellectual property and third party agreements and onboarding of Penn investigators who join PICI@Penn as project members or member researchers.
Manage intellectual property matters as they relate to the Penn s participation as an affiliated institution of PICI. Responsibilities include intellectual property identification, evaluation and patenting recommendations and coordinating these activities as relevant both with Penn and the PICI intellectual property management group.
Actively participate in internal PICI@UPenn s member research and clinical development meetings to identify new intellectual property and provide guidance related to intellectual property and key contractual questions raised by the PICI@UPenn scientists.
Perform scientific review and evaluation of grant submissions / related IP policies / terms and conditions and other 3rd party agreements that are requested by PICI@UPenn s member researchers and project members to ensure Penn's compliance with PICI agreement obligations. Communicate and negotiate with internal Penn stakeholders the Institute and other participating institutions to ensure that issues are efficiently resolved.
Facilitate licensing and deal negotiation with the Technology Transfer Committee (TTC) at PICI and counterparts at other affiliated member institutions of PICI. Participate in meetings with PICI s TTC and other member institutions to coordinate the appropriate course of action for managing consortium intellectual property. Negotiate and draft license agreements, collaboration and other commercialization agreements in support of the PICI@UPenn activities.

Qualifications
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in biomedical science and 3-5 years of experience in university and/or industry setting(s) evaluating and licensing intellectual property is required or equivalent combination of education and related experience;
Demonstrated track record of success in negotiating intellectual property license agreements and other associated research collaboration and partnering agreements (sponsored research, MTAs, CDAs, collaboration agreements, service agreements) is required;
Demonstrated track record of establishing and maintaining productive relationships with key faculty members and industry collaborators;
Experience in key aspects of academic technology transfer preferred;
Ability to autonomously manage a large, diverse set of tasks and projects under tight deadlines;
Excellent time management and prioritization skills;
Excellent verbal & written communication skills;
An independent self-starter with strong work ethic;
A team player;
High level of attention to detail in work products.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
