Overview:
Hospice accepts and directs requests for health care services. This position facilitates patient or client requests for hospice services within and outside the agency.
Responsibilities:
  • Reviews admissions daily by insurance provider to determine authorization requirements. Submits and follows up on all authorization requests in a timely manner.
  • Communicates with Caris offices regarding authorization status and required documentation.
  • Completes authorization appeals for denials.
  • Completes all EMR workflow related to insurance authorizations and documents authorization findings in medical record.
  • Stays current on all services offered by the company.
  • Assists in maintaining an efficient operation of the Referral Center.
  • Assists in coordinating and facilitating ongoing training for product knowledge, telephone techniques and sales application.
  • Prepares specific reports and communicates on a regular basis with immediate supervisor and appropriate personnel.
  • Cheerfully and promptly handles inquiries or referrals for service(s) in a timely manner.
  • Promptly identifies the caller’s needs and takes proper action to see that those needs are handled in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Handles sensitive issues in a professional manner, is able to diffuse potential problems that may arise between patients, clients or employees.
  • Assists in maintaining efficient, accurate records regarding any and all pertinent information for insurance verification. Assists in maintaining a clean and productive work environment.
  • Stays informed of new health care developments and trends for all departments by reading product specific periodicals, attending meetings and communicating with individual department heads.
  • Participates in the performance improvement (PI) quality assurance program.
Qualifications:
  • A high school graduate or the equivalent preferred.
  • ust be experienced with PC's and be familiar with common office software such as word processing and spreadsheets, etc.
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented.
  • Overnight travel may be required.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and comprehend written and verbal communications.
  • Must be able to function efficiently in a stressful work environment.
