Pumpkin is looking for a mid-career software engineer to join our best in show engineering team! As a software engineer at Pumpkin, you will partner with product and design teams to deliver insurance and wellness experiences optimized for pets and their pet parents, help enable other engineers through breaking apart complex requirements and coaching, and support the realization of our application and its delivery. This role is a remote position for those outside of a commutable distance of the Columbus, Ohio office. For those located in Columbus, Ohio this will be a hybrid position, with a requirement of 2 days a week in the office.
What You'll Do:
- Work on engineering initiatives that drive a larger feature-set, while being careful to manage technical debt in the process.
- Engage with others on the team and support other people in their work.
- Provide reviews to support the quality of the work of others in your team.
- Continue to learn the relevant technologies and systems we have in place and help to actively maintain and extend the system.
What We're Looking For:
- At least 2 years of experience as a professional software engineer.
- At least 1 year of recent experience working with Python, its technical stacks, and other related back-end technologies.
- Familiarity with tools required for full stack development, including AWS, React, JavaScript.
- Clear, consistent communication skills in discussion, writing, and in code.
- Strong organizational and problem solving skills.
Bonus Points:
- Previous experience in an agile startup environment with an ability to operate within ambiguity.
- Experience working remotely with a distributed team.
- Experience building enterprise, mission critical applications.

Compensation: $120,000-$150,000
