BAGGAGE HANDLER
POSITION: Baggage Handler at Orlando International Airport
Job Type: Full-time
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Remove bags from the conveyor belt, read bag tags and then sort and transport bags to appropriate piers within the baggage handling area.
  • Read bag tags and manually encode baggage using a hand scanner and or bag tag computer touch screen (at the manual encoding station).
  • Read bag tags to determine which piers to send bags to, then apply pier tags and lift bags onto the transfer belt at the appropriate time (at the transfer belt station).
  • Work in the TSA Screening Room, as assigned, removing bags from the incoming belts and sorting, and placing them at TSA screener stations.
  • Assigned tub collection and distribution duties to relieve customer personnel shortages
  • Lift 75 lbs. or more regularly.
  • Comply with company safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Perform cleaning of their work area, general cleaning of other areas, pods, trash, and any other duties as assigned or needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of a Baggage Handler, the employee is regularly required to climb; sit;
stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Work in a
fast-paced environment. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 75 lbs. or more regularly.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include proximity vision, distance vision,
color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Good hand/eye
coordination is required.
Hearing abilities are required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The Baggage Handler is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles,
cleaning/maintenance chemicals, heat, cold, and vibration. Employees may work on an airport ramp
around airline vehicles and heavy equipment. Works under the Airport Terminal, in conditions that
may contain dust, dirt, and continual noise that is below OSHA’s action level.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License or Government issued identification.
  • Airport experience is a plus.
  • Ability to perform shift work including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • A candidate must fulfill a Drug Screening test and a fingerprint-based criminal background check
  • to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas
  • (SIDA). Candidates must also be able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges, if applicable.
  • Must be able to report to work on a regular, consistent, and timely basis.
