JOB TITLE: Behavioral Interventionist (2 positions, 1 year only grant-funded) (1) Melville Elementary & (1) Hathaway Elementary REPORTS TO: Building PrincipalPosition Summary: Under the direction and supervision of the Building Principal, the Behavioral Interventionist will support students to ensure that they meet our school-wide expectation. The Behavioral Interventionist will work to design, implement, coordinate and evaluate tier 2 and tier 3 behavior support plans. The Behavioral Interventionist will work directly with identified students to adopt behaviors that substantially increase their academic performance. The Behavioral Interventionist will provide diversified strategies and activities specifically designed for targeted students.Essential Functions: 1. Work directly with students, providing tier 2 and 3 SEL/Behavioral interventions.2. Provide highly specialized positive behavior interventions in which at-risk students thrive: behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated, and provides ample practice. 3.
Use ongoing assessments to maintain a record of student progress. 4. Develop a repertoire of assessment strategies consistent with instructional goals, teaching methods, and individual student needs to more accurately assess student behavior skills and understandings. 5.
Model good assessment processes that assist students in assessing their own work and behavior. 6. Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors. 7.
Work cooperatively with the building administrator, teachers, and support professionals to promote positive student behavior.8. Model instructional practices to support teachers in their implementation of positive behavioral supports in their classrooms.9. Engage parents in the student behavior intervention plan process and empower parents by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child. 10.Conduct conflict resolution through the use of restorative practices.11.
Other duties as assigned by the building principal. EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED: Current Rhode Island teaching certification in one of the following areas: Elementary Education, Special Education, School Counselor, or School PsychologistTraining or willingness to complete training in Safety Care, Multi-tiered System of Supports, Restorative Practices, and/or Social Emotional LearningPHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1. Communicate and detect information at levels to be able to make presentations and exchange information in person and on the telephone 2. Express oneself so others will be able to clearly understand 3.
Constantly operate a computer keyboard and manipulate paper 4. Detect, determine, perceive and identify documentation and reports, and to observe students 5. Able to meet multiple demands from several people and meet deadlines with severe time constraints 6. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, in both indoor and outdoor environments, and possible move and traverse in order to maintain a safe learning environment 7.
Stamina to work irregular or extended hours to include a full day and then attending meetings or supervising evening events 8. Work at a desk, conference table, small student classroom table, or in meetings in various configurations 9. Position self to be able to retrieve items overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally10. Move and transport moderately heavy objects MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS: 1.
Demonstrated proficiency with PC-based computer applications, Google Suite, Microsoft Office applications, e-mail, Web applications, and industry-specific technology.2.
