Job Overview

As an Account Manager you’ll be responsible for coordinating the overall service for an assigned group of clients, agents, and consultants. You’ll assist in the set-up of new clients and will manage the ongoing servicing of accounts. It will be your duty to relay information about the client to Boon-Chapman departments, Prime Dx, as well as other applicable vendors. You will report jointly to the Director of Houston, Texas (Woodlands, Texas) Operations and the Director of Service (Austin, Texas). Key responsibilities include:

  • Establishes a good working relationship with clients, appointed representatives, agents and consultants in order to retain clients.
  • Assists with conducting enrollment meetings at client sites.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with carriers.
  • Reviews and finds opportunities to streamline current processes to become more efficient.
  • Finds opportunities for up-selling to existing clients.
  • Creates education materials and training for both internal and external clients on legislative updates.
  • Coordinates the renewal bid process and preparation of renewal presentation materials.
  • Negotiates with carriers to obtain competitive offerings.
  • Facilitates rate finalization and carrier acceptance.
  • Prepares formal presentations to include rate comparisons, benefit schedules, carrier contingencies and supplemental exhibits.
  • Presents the renewal offering to the client in conjunction with the agent or consultant.
  • Monitors issues log to identify trending issues and facilitates proper resolution.
  • Establishes a good working relationship with client’s decision makers, appointed representatives, agents and consultants.
  • Reviews and delivers special/ad hoc report requests from clients/agents.
  • Assists in new group implementations.
  • Prepares material necessary for client or employee presentations.
  • Assists with calculation of COBRA rates.
  • Develops educational materials and training on new benefits during renewal.
  • Coordinates and responds to client/agent claim/benefit inquiries. Coordinates with reporting staff any special reporting requests from clients/agents.
  • Works with Benefits Department and Draft Disbursement Coordinator to monitor client funding and prompt release of claims.
  • Furnishes all departments with plan information necessary to fulfill their responsibilities.
  • Willingness to travel, usually overnight.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Minimum five years insurance/benefits experience.
  • TPA experience preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in Microsoft Outlook programs.
  • Knowledge of stop loss policies and provision and how they affect the client.
  • Knowledge of state and federal legislation and how they pertain to clients.
  • Knowledge of banking and funding requirements.
  • Skill in conducting employee presentations.
  • Skill in critical thinking.
  • Skill in interpersonal and written communication.
  • Ability to understand TPA agreements and other client/vendor agreements.
  • Ability to properly interpret plan documents and make applicable revisions and amendments.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret plan data and effectively communicate findings to client, agents, consultants, and carriers.
  • Ability to understand the claim processing, eligibility and utilization management procedures.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to accurately compile data and perform detailed work.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of material and information.
  • Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and with other departments.
