What Success Looks Like In This Job

Under guidance from the Benefits Manager and Benefits-LOA-ADA Administrator, perform a variety of professional and technical work involved in the administration of the Adams County benefit programs, early retiree/Medicare programs, leave of absence and ADAAA

Examples of Duties for Success

  • Complete administration of all benefit programs to ensure compliance with regulations and plan provisions (includes vendor communication, invoice reconciliation, draft communication materials, plan document review, answer questions, etc.).
  • Act as main point of contact for employee questions, problem resolution, file feed monitoring, data entry.
  • Assist the Benefits Manager and Benefits-LOA-ADA Administrator on benefit plan renewal, open enrollment and implementations.
  • Complete administration of leave of absence (including FMLA, all applicable state/local leaves, Adams County policies) and ADAAA.
  • Provide exceptional service to all customers.
  • Presentations (drafting of and presenting).
  • Continual improvement of benefit programs, processes.
  • Continual education of self on governmental regulations and practices that effect benefits, leave of absence and ADAAA.
  • Continually stay educated on changes in benefit plans and all pertinent federal, state and local laws, regulations and ordinances.
  • Back-up for other team members when they are not available and assist in workload.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • This position is part of our People and Culture (HR) Department

Qualifications for Success

Knowledge of:


  • Current principles and practices of human resources administration.
  • Current principles and practices benefit administration including benefit plans options and programs.
  • Pertinent federal, state and local laws, regulations and ordinances (including FMLA and ADAAA).

Skills and Abilities:
  • Self-motivated, display initiative
  • Write clear, concise and grammatically correct communication pieces.
  • Present (either in person or via remote means) in an articulate, clear and professional manner.
  • Communicate orally clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Understand complicated benefit programs, regulations and leave/ADAAA laws.
  • Interpret and understand pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Participate in developing operational reports and recommendations.

  • Intermediate proficiency level in Microsoft Office.
  • Operate all office equipment required to perform essential functions.

More Qualifications for Success

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:


  • Experience -
    Five+ years of benefits/LOA/ADAAA administration. Must have intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office that allows for efficient administration of programs. A minimum of five years of experience with an HR information system. JD Edwards preferred. Proficiency in HR information systems report writing.

  • Education – High school diploma. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. CBP, CEBS or PHR certifications preferred.

  • Background Check – Must pass a criminal background check.

  • More Qualifications for Success – This position will require some travel between locations. The locations are all located within Adams County, Colorado. Candidate should have the ability and means to travel as needed for the position.

Physical Demands:
Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
  • Work in a standard office and/or home office environment.
  • Lift/push/pull up to 30lbs infrequently.
  • Work at a computer at least 8 hours per day.
  • Be on phone frequently.
  • Reach/grab/bend/twist as needed.
