6:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Training Schedule:
Monday - Friday (40 hrs/wk)
7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Department: Bioengineering - 242

Primary Purpose:

Schedule and perform preventive maintenance of laboratory and related instrumentation at ARUP Laboratories. Analyze, evaluate, troubleshoot and repair existing equipment. Assist in evaluation, validation, and installation of new equipment. Sound knowledge of laboratory equipment (analyzers) that produces data or patient results.

Essential Functions:

Advanced knowledge of laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, incubators, balances, and microscopes.

Basic knowledge of laboratory instruments including analyzers and liquid handling devices.

Prepares for and executes equipment installation, operation, and performance qualifications (IQ, OQ, PQ) of laboratory equipment and instruments.

Performs advanced troubleshooting and repair of laboratory equipment and instruments.

Performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments as required by regulatory agencies and manufacturers recommendations.

Maintain records of work performed with completed service including cost of time and materials.

Assist in the analysis, evaluation, design, or modification of instruments or equipment.

Maintain adequate inventory of supplies, equipment, reference materials and spare parts to complete assignments.

Meet all deadlines by effectively organizing time and work.

Participate in required safety training and other continuing education at the request or direction of the Biomedical Service Engineering Supervisor.

Maintain confidentiality of all results and communication.

Demonstrate professional demeanor in all interactions, develop and maintain positive relationships internally and with outside vendors.

Satisfy on-call requirements to ensure automated specimen delivery system is repaired in a timely manner.

Assist in the on-going training of Biomedical Service Technicians in the evaluation, repair, and installation of laboratory equipment.

Assist the Biomedical Service Engineering Supervisor in the development of preventative maintenance schedules.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical and Other Requirements:

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

Communicate: Frequently and effectively communicate with others.

PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.

ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.

Authorized to Work: Must be a citizen of the United States or authorized to work in the United States.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.

Color Vision: Perception of and ability to distinguish colors

English: Ability to speak, read, and comprehend the English language.

Age: Must be 21 years old.

Valid Utah Driver’s License: 1)No moving violations within the previous two years 2) No alcohol/drug-related violations on record with the Driver’s License Division

Continual Education: Continual assessment of current literature and best practices.

Ability to travel between locations in Salt Lake City.

Ability to travel out of state for up to three weeks at a time.

Qualifications

Education

Required

High School Diploma or Equivalent or better.

Preferred

Bachelor's Degree or better in Biomedical Engineering or related field.

Experience

Required

Bachelor's degree or equivalent college course work in Medical Laboratory Science, Engineering, Biological or Chemical Science
OR Associate's degree with 2 years directly related experience in a laboratory setting
OR four years related military experience
OR four years directly related experience as a Biomedical Service Engineer, Lab Service Engineer, Field Service Engineer or other related experience
