Position Definition:
NCIRE/UCSF – The Richards Lab, in the Stress and Health Research Program at the San Francisco VA Medical Center and UCSF, conducts research on the intersection of sleep and posttraumatic stress disorder. Research includes both clinical (clinical trials, observational studies) and translational research involving behavioral survey data, clinical assessment data, mobile app data, and wake and sleep physiological data (EEG, EMG and EKG).

This Biostatistician will collaborate and support the research team with the analysis of behavioral measures and the analysis of physiological data from the preparatory phase to final analysis. The biostatistician will use a variety of intermediate to advanced statistical and data analytics techniques including, but not limited to regression and mixed models and longitudinal data analysis. Duties include statistical programming, preparation of data for analysis, contributing to the quality assurance of statistical analyses, writing methods and analysis descriptions in formal reports and grant applications, communicating with collaborators, and organizing and maintaining confidential project materials. A successful Biostatistician is a team player who develops a deep understanding of clinical and translational questions and has the ability to take on increasing responsibility in the research program.

Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in biostatistics or statistics, or Master's degree in quantitative methods in a health sciences program (psychology, public health, etc.) or related field
  • 1-2 years of working experience with sustained excellent performance post degree

Job Requirements:

  • Excellent programming skills in R and/or Stata.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard statistical methods
  • Experience with clinical research and longitudinal data
  • Experience analyzing physiological (EEG, EKG, and/or EMG) data, with understanding of critical aspects of preparatory-for-analysis needs, is preferred
  • Experience in any of the following would be desirable but not required: factor analysis, compositional data analysis, basic machine learning algorithms
  • Demonstrated initiative and motivation
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • The ability to recognize, adapt and adjust to changing priorities
  • Positive attitude and the ability to work well with others, including ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team setting

The salary range for this position is $64,480.00 - $121,736.16.
