Purpose:

Safely operate a school bus or alternate vehicle to transport children from school to the program and then home using an assigned route according to a time schedule.

We provide after school, summer camp, mentoring, supervised visits, therapy and transportation. We’re looking for dedicated and creative professionals to assist at risk youth with support services during the school year, Saturdays and/or summer months.

The ideal candidates will have a CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements and demonstrated the ability to establish effective relationships with caregivers and their children, maintain high standards and believe that the care they provide is invaluable.

This position requires excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills, as well as the ability to provide exceptional customer service.

Full Year Job Opportunity:

  • School Year: 30 Hours Per Week- 2:00 pm- 6:30 pm Monday through Friday/ 8:45- 3 pm on Saturday/ Additional transportation routes available/ Full Day Available on days children are off from school
  • Summer: 40 Hours Per Week- 8:00 am- 4:00 pm Monday through Friday/ extended hours available for Summer After Care/ Additional transportation routes available
  • Hourly Rate: $20.00- $22.00 per hour
  • Education: High School (minimum)
  • Experience: At least 2 year(s)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Safely runs a fixed route;
  • Administers basic first aid in case of an injury;
  • Handles emergency situations, including vehicle evacuation procedures;
  • Conducts routine maintenance and safety checks of the vehicle;
  • Bus Drivers must maintain accurate records regarding their vehicle and children who are being transported.

The record-keeping includes:

  • Accident reports
  • Pre and post-trip inspections for the operation of the vehicle
  • Regular ongoing maintenance records
  • Contact information for release of a child to the guardian
  • Establish written fixed bus routes and if necessary, alternate routes
  • Be able to alter routes and/or daily routines based on transportation needs of the day
  • May escort children to their door and convey any messages from parents to their supervisor, as well as any incidents on the bus, and messages from teacher to program and/or guardian.
  • Drivers may occasionally be assigned, as needed, as Bus Monitors, at the discretion of the company.
  • Must be punctual and have regular work attendance
  • Must be punctual on routes and/or field and trips.
  • Must be clean and neat in appearance at all times
  • Must be patient with traffic conditions, students, caregivers and co-workers.

Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • License: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class B with an “S” and “P” endorsement
  • Medical: Current Medical Certification
  • Age: 21 years of age
  • Experience: Minimum of two years Class B or C driving experience transporting children and prior experience working with school aged children.

Qualifications:

  • All applicants are subject to a physical and DOT drug testing. DOT regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of schedule 1 drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to children, caregivers, other staff members and supervisor.

  • Must be able to alter routines when unexpected, stressful situations and multiple interruptions occur without projecting stress/frustration that would adversely affect the work environment.
