Function & Scope

To place and maintain purchase orders as required by MRP and internal customers. Expedites orders, tracks deliveries, resolves invoicing issues, and maintains accurate records as outlined by company policy. This position will deal heavily with MRO purchases and some MRP commodities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Reviews MRP requirements on a weekly basis. Identify and act on requirements for new orders, expedites, defers or cancellations.
  • Issues and expedite Purchase Orders as required.
  • Enters purchase orders in accordance to purchasing procedures, requisition requests and MRP system requirements.
  • Identifies sources of supply; evaluate quotes based on pricing and ability to supply. Look for potential areas of cost reductions where possible.
  • Analyzes supplier performance regarding delivery, quality and cost. Make ordering decisions based on supplier performance.
  • Manages good supplier relations. Identify areas of potential supplier improvement; OTD, quality, and cost.
  • Follows up with suppliers concerning order status; communicate delivery information to Planning and/or specific departments impacted. Update purchase orders with delivery date changes where necessary. Ensure all orders reach the supplier and delivery is confirmed in a timely manner.
  • Organizes filing system for purchase order documentation.
  • Reviews and resolves rejected materials; coordinate return shipments of rejected product.
  • Maintains and update standard costs.
  • Reconciles invoice issues with AP.
  • Process freight bills for approval in a timely manner (within 48 hours of receipt.)
  • Updates Purchasing address book as required.
  • Works to consolidate requisition requirements through vendor consolidation and managed inventory programs.

Working Conditions & Safety Concerns:

Works in tiled cubicle area. Physical activity is limited to walking through the plant, to inventory, and lifting books and small packages weighing less than 10 pounds.


Skills/Experience:

  • 3 - 5 years of experience working in a computerized purchasing organization and/or a Bachelor's Degree with 1 - 2 years experience preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of purchasing and inventory concepts, practices, and procedures within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with MRO items, fasteners, hardware and Capital Expense requests.
  • Strong communication skills; verbal and written.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel) and working knowledge of ERP systems. Solid experience working with an ERP/ MRP system
  • Ability to think freely and exercise independent judgment.
  • Experience using JD Edwards, SAP or other ERP system preferred.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing and the seismic industry preferred.

Education

Bachelors degree.
