About Technology Services
The Technology Services Department (TS) of the City and County of Denver use state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies to deliver and improve the systems, applications, and operations to our customers. About Infrastructure and Operations Management
The Operations team provides the engineering and maintenance of city technology infrastructure, data storage, and converged networks. The team is responsible for planning and implementing new infrastructure as well as ongoing maintenance and enhancements. The Operations team also provides voice system and end user device support, provides 911 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) support to Denver 911, and manages communication and voice radio systems management for first responders and other city agencies.

In Technology Services, our mission is to improve city performance through four basic strategies: reliability, innovation, access and partnership. The Cable Design Engineer will provide technical subject matter expertise for network infrastructure builds, lead cross functional teams in both design and implementation of technology for new construction and remodeled spaces across the City and County of Denver, and coordinate testing as well as some production support activities for additional services and/or projects, as needed by Technology Services. In addition, you will work with both internal agencies and external contractors to assess sites, provide standards and technical specifications, and prepare quotes for equipment and materials as needed for each project.
As a Cable Design Engineer, you will have a unique opportunity to work with multiple agencies and stake holders across the City and County of Denver. You will apply your skills based on our environmental challenges as a major City and County organization. Our successful candidate will enjoy a robust role ranging from design, to implementation, while working closely with a great team. A mixture of analytical ability, passion for accuracy, eagerness to tackle multiple tasks, along with effective relationship building at all levels of the City, are all crucial to success in this role.
Additionally, the Cable Design Engineer will:
- Plan and design network installation for new and existing buildings, working with both internal agencies and external contractors to assess sites, provide standards and technical specifications. Prepare quotes for equipment and materials and manage delivery of equipment, tools and supplies needed for each project.
- Maintain and modernize established MDF's, IDF's and Service Entrances, working with a variety of service providers to establish new connectivity to remote sites.
- Deploy network infrastructure by troubleshooting, testing network and updating documentation.
- Perform limited communication application/network administration, such as establishing user accounts, setting passwords, assigning access levels.
- Work with agencies to gather requirements and establish scope of work for current and future projects
- Manage and oversee contractors. Provide instruction regarding IT communication and network infrastructure issues.
- Document network infrastructure designs via CAD, Blue Beam and or Visio. Follow established TIA policy and standards, recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
- Provide superior customer relations by listening to and resolving concerns and answering questions for agency partners.
- Effectively communicate and display a professional, mature attitude when working with internal customers, management, and personnel across the organization
- Partner with project teams, and vendors to understand known and needed processes, infrastructure, system, and integration requirements
- Create functional analysis documentation which identifies and recommends resolution of technology, application, network, or security gaps.
- Prepare final documentation for review and approval with stakeholders, ensuring appropriate detail available to drive confidence with and approval of design solutions
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
About You
We are looking for someone with some or all the following skills and experience:
- 3 Years’ Experience in design and implementation of technology for large construction projects
- 2 Years’ Experience working with and Configuring Cisco Switches
- Knowledge of Cisco Wireless products
- Background in running, pulling, terminating, and splicing both fiber and a variety of Ethernet and twisted pair cables
- Experience writing and maintaining technical documentation
- Wide knowledge of TIA Standards
- Knowledge of AV products a plus (Poly Video Conferencing and Digital Signage)

- Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Mathematics or a related field.
- Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional Information Technology experience installing, maintaining, and/or modifying application software, operating system and/or network operating system software and associated hardware.
- Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
- Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
