Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Operations and Member Experience, The Camp Director is responsible for
planning, directing and supervising all operations, programs and staff at Camp Grosvenor. The Camp
Director is also responsible for developing a curriculum, marketing Camp services, staffing and coordinating
rentals for Camp Grosvenor. This position will support the Kids Clubhouse programming and services
during the off camp season.
Qualifications/ Job Requirements

  • Adventure Programming Certifications preferred
  • First Aid & CPR Certifications
  • Director certification by the American Camping Association preferred
  • According to state law, the Boys & Girls Club must conduct a criminal records check by the Bureau

of Criminal Identification of the Department of Attorney General of the State of Rhode Island.

  • All staff are expected to assist with our major fundraising events
  • All staff have responsibilities to help fundraise
  • Staff must be flexible as our schedules change to serve our members – evening and weekends

are expected during the school year.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience leading adventure and team-building programs**
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities
  • At least one season of camp administrative experience (i.e., unit leader, head counselor)
  • Ability to supervise staff and campers
  • Ability to interact with the public in a professional manner
  • Ability to plan, originate, organize, and carry out daily and special programs
  • Marketing experience – to develop and execute marketing strategy to maximize camp enrollment

and rentals

Job Functions:
Staff/ Program Development

  • Full ownership and responsibility for all Camp operations, including staffing, scheduling, program

development and execution

  • Define camp goals and/ or define and plan program to reflect camp goals
  • Prepare and conduct pre-camp and in-service staff trainings, cultivating a staff and environment

that is hospitable, safe and welcoming for both staff and participants

  • Order or supervise the ordering of food, supplies, and equipment, and arrange for proper

distribution

  • Set and supervise office procedures, opening-and closing-day procedures for staff and campers
  • Responsible for scheduling, assign staff activities and other responsibilities
  • Assign staff and campers to groups
  • Supervise and evaluate all operations and program staff
  • Develop routines, schedules, and procedures for rentals and camp operation
  • Organize and/ or approve trips out of camp for program, supplies, and crisis management
  • Responsible for full compliance (ACA, State, Safety, etc.) for camp and rentals
  • Responsible to provide program support to the Kids Clubhouse childcare program during the off

season to build youth and staff relationships.

Communication

  • Attend all staff meetings and maintain close contact with the Club/Camp staff regarding marketing,

outreach, scheduling and staffing

  • Establish and maintain contact with vendors, local business and others to publicize the Camp and

program

  • Originate and carry out a system for recruiting campers and staff utilizing brochures, telephone

calls, repeat customers, hot prospect lists, etc.

  • Maintain and review records, inventory and evaluations of all programs, operations, staff, and

facilities and prepare a summary of recommendations for the following season
Safety and Security

  • Define and monitor all emergency procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision and

safety of all campers and staff

  • Ensure rented spaces are safe and that the club equipment is maintained in working condition
  • Ensure AED and first-aid kits are stocked at all times
  • Ensure all equipment is stored properly, inventoried and is in its correct location
  • Assist with the documentation of accident reports and incident reports
  • Ensure that all safety rules and policies are enforced

Environmental and Working conditions

  • All work is conducted in the Club/Camp setting, indoor and outside. Travel is required
  • Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp family

Physical and Mental requirements
Demonstrate the ability to:

  • Maintain a high energy level; comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-

to-day activities

  • Regularly required to speak clearly and hear the spoken word
  • Render excellent judgment skills; selecting the most appropriate course of action in a given

situation

  • Ability to resolve conflict and potential crises as they arise
  • Provide others with necessary, correct and timely information
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating responsible professional and ethical behavior

Terms of Employment:

Full-time hours with benefits. Annual salary between $40,000 and $46,000 based on experience.
Housing accommodations at camp are included.

and music production, and the fine arts.
