One of TNC’s primary goals is to cultivate an inclusive work environment so that employees around the globe have a sense of belonging and feel that their unique contributions are valued. We know we’ll only achieve our mission by hiring and engaging a diverse staff that reflects the communities in which we work. Recognizing that people bring talent and skills that have been developed outside the scope of a job, we take a holistic approach to recruitment that considers life experience in addition to the professional requirements listed in our postings. Please apply – we’d love to hear from you. To quote a popular saying at TNC, “you’ll join for the mission, and you’ll stay for the people.”
WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Nature Conservancy envisions a New York where floodplains and shorelines function naturally and dynamically, and people are safe from the impacts of rising water and eroding lands. We work to accomplish this vision by protecting floodplains and shorelines from new development and hardening as well as restoring natural function to degraded floodplains and shorelines, which often involves making way for water. We work with communities, governments, and other partners to understand barriers to long term, sustainable adaptation and seek solutions that allow people to benefit from nature to solve their climate adaptation challenges.
The Climate Adaptation Practitioner provides technical leadership and support within the New York Division Climate Adaptation Team by working with colleagues to test and implement solutions to the climate impacts facing New Yorkers, with emphasis on flooding and erosion. They address critical threats to natural ecosystems and people, foster cross-site learning among the conservation and adaptation community, and supply conservation planning teams with site or landscape level information relevant to climate adaptation. They develop and implement conservation strategies and help to secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities. They may coordinate community participation and partnerships with conservations organizations and governments and must be comfortable communicating with a variety of audiences. The climate adaptation practitioner will be a flexible team-player who can work on internal and external teams to identify priorities and accomplish projects.
