Communications Specialist/ Public Information Officer
Job description
Under limited supervision, develops and implements campaigns and communication programs for social or community outreach. Leads and develops strategic planning efforts, and creates/develops communication materials, techniques and/or tools. May also serve in a lead role.

All Coastal Health District, County Health Department employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
Serve as lead communications contact for the district.
Manage all media inquiries and coordinate all messaging with the appropriate public health subject matter expert.
Develop talking points for subject matter experts.
Coordinate media interviews with subject matter experts.
Maintain and update county and district external web pages and internal web pages (intranet).
Manage public inquiries and/or complaints regarding public health programs or services.
Manage paid advertising initiatives and campaigns (traditional and social media) for public health services and programs.
Manage information disseminated from district or counties to the media and the public through printed and electronic media.
As part of a team, develop and implement campaigns for social and community outreach including creating collateral materials (i.e., fliers, banners, postcards, direct mail).
Provide oversight of District brand management, including approval of any collateral created by district entities (i.e., business cards, fliers, promotional materials).
Create social media graphics and messaging to support all public health services and programs. Maintain and update all social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Write and distribute press releases to promote public health services and special events.
As part of a team, develops outline of advertising strategies.
Lead and develop internal and external communications strategic planning efforts and research and develop communications techniques and/or tools.
Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Three years of communications experience OR Six years of communications or related experience OR One year at the lower level (GSP042) or position equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience working with traditional and social media. Experience working in public health and public health-related programs.
