Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. Define specifications for significant new projects and specify, design and develop software according to those specifications. You will perform professional software development tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.

Provide leadership and expertise in the development of new products/services/processes, frequently operating at the leading edge of technology. Recommends and justifies major changes to existing products/services/processes. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 8 or more years of software engineering or related experience.

The Oracle Database Utilities group develops some of the most widely used features of the world's preeminent database, focusing on high speed movement of data into and between Oracle Databases. The features under the Database Utilities umbrella including Data Pump, SQL*Loader, Transportable Tablespaces, External Tables, the Metadata API, and the Cloud Premigration Assessment Tool (CPAT) - these are the tools that the world's largest companies depend on to move their most valuable, enterprise scale data as quickly and reliably as possible.

Responsibilities:
We are looking for a Software Developer 5 to join our team, to focus on development of aspects of Oracle Data Pump and the Metadata API. This is a senior level position where the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the full development lifecycle, from product/feature concept to specification, design, implementation, quality assurance, and maintenance.

Software developers in the Database Utilities team often collaborate with other development groups throughout the Database organization and the rest of the company, to provide support for other features and products. They may speak with DBAs from internal and external customers, occasionally interfacing with developers as well, to understand customer requirements and use cases. Developers will also work with groups like Oracle Support Services to address production issues when needed.

Skills:
The skills desired for this position include

• Deep understanding of relational database technology, with knowledge of Oracle RDBMS internals a significant plus
• Development experience with PL/SQL and C language code, to the depth required to review code and understand technical problems
• Facility with XML/XSL documents and style sheets is helpful but not required
• The ability to write clear and concise descriptions of technical topics, review documentation, and understand complex specifications and designs
• The ability to present technical information to technical audiences
• A desire to work on production software used for mission critical systems at the largest and best-known organizations in the world

Location and Travel:
The Database Utilities group is spread across multiple locations in the USA and Mexico, and we are now staffing up a team in India.
