POSITION SUMMARY:
The Consumer Lending Manager position exists to be responsible for underwriting consumer loans for home improvement items, such as energy efficient upgrades.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees the origination process of Consumer Lending loans from application to funding. Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance, Inc. has partnered with TVA to provide a financing option as part of the Energy Smart program.
- Oversees, leads, and manages Consumer Lending and processes including: applications, underwriting, originations, closing, audit, post funding, LOS, process improvement, and system modernization.
- Develops and implements the overall vision and direction for the Consumer Lending department.
- Directs department in developing and implementing new processes, along with updating the team on changes and tools they need for the change.
- Sets expectations and holds Consumer Lending team accountable for communications, RFI, quality, and turn time.
- Provides excellent reasoning skills for the purpose of business application and automation.
- Builds a business relationship with TVA, local power companies, and contractors as part of this program.
· Collaborates with TVA, Utilities boards, and Home Improvement contractors to provide excellent affordable resources for existing customers.
- Partners with multiple departments to learn and educate on current and new processes.
- Presents and markets new ideas with superior negotiation skills to homeowners and distributors.
- Provides guidance to internal and external customers on processes and requirements.
- Works with IT and departments to marry current systems and provide guidance on future systems with the common goal to provide auto approval.
- Oversees hiring process, coaching and development, team building and overall success of the Consumer Lending Team.
- Develops team by providing constructive feedback and coaching opportunities to ensure the team finds success at a high level.
- Counsels’ team regarding performance and completes PDCs on an annual basis.
- Develops departmental goals with guidance from Director of Consumer/Commercial Lending.
- Collects, analyzes, and evaluates potential hazards to design programs that meet the needs of customers.
- Seeks opportunities to enhance process through research and analysis of data.
- Identifies trends, risks and opportunities through goal tracking and reporting.
- Analyze portfolio performance to correctly price loans and monitor delinquency.
- Remains knowledgeable of all company/department policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal lending regulations.
- Responsible for training of Power companies (i.e. TVA), Utility Boards and Contractors.
- Responsible for marketing to Power companies, Utility Boards, Contractors, and end customers.
- Ensures Consumer Lending maintains an up-to-date, detailed master documentation of all Consumer Lending procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required, 4-year College degree or related field experience preferred.
- Three or more years’ experience in the finance field preferred.
· Working knowledge of processes that impact loan procedures, which include credit, loan processing, and post funding.
- Building and maintaining business relationships with business partners.
- Ability to complete entire loan process from start to finish along with continual ideas on making the process better through automation and consistency.
- Must be professional, well organized, thorough, committed, urgent, and a resourceful problem solver.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with internal and external customers.
- Capability to operate within a team environment.
- Great attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Able to effectively motivate and supervise team members.
- Capability of gathering facts accurately, analyzing causes, evaluating alternate solutions, and arriving at sound conclusions on action to be taken.
- Computer skills necessary – working knowledge of LINK, AS400, Excel, and Word.
- Flexible hours in work schedule necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
- Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
- 90% communication methods completed over the phone.
- Must always be able to exchange accurate information.
- Ability to identify and assess account status and determine appropriate process.
- Constantly works in an indoor temperature controlled, sealed window office environment.
