Coordinator of Aquatics and Safety

Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: Coordinator of Aquatics and Safety in the Department of University Recreation.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate comprehensive University Recreation aquatic and safety programming functions including: marketing and coordinating the scheduling and maintenance of the Williams-Brice swimming pool, coordinating a comprehensive emergency action plan for the entire department, and collaborating with staff to ensure safety training is provided during departmental and area-specific trainings.
  • Plan, develop, promote, implement and evaluate aquatic and safety programs to include: American Red Cross swim lessons, lifeguard training courses, CPR/First Aid/AED and Bloodborne pathogen training.
  • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate student employees including: qualified aquatic supervisors, lifeguards, swim instructors, desk assistants, pool maintenance staff.

Requirements: A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one (1) year of work experience in the Aquatics field is required. Current certification in CPR/ AED, First Aid, and Lifeguard Training is also required. A master’s degree and two (2) years of Aquatics experience in a collegiate setting is preferred. Current instructor certification in WSI (Water Safety Instructor), LGT (Lifeguard Instructor), and Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or the ability to obtain it within thirty (30) days of hire is also preferred.

Program Coordinator I (AH35/61121827/ FTE-S00835P), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 05. Salary range: $35,360.00 (minimum) to $50,394.00 (midpoint). Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 pm. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum one (1) year work experience in the field of aquatics.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree. Two (2) years’ aquatics experience in a collegiate setting. Current instructor certification in WSI (Water Safety Instructor) and LGT (Lifeguard Instructor) preferred. Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire. Lifeguard Instructor Trainer preferred.

Required Licensure and/or Certification
Current certification in Lifeguard Training. Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize, work under pressure and respond appropriately in emergencies; excellent organization skills, attention to detail; and ability to work under minimal supervision. Maintain current certifications to comply with DHEC regulations. Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. General knowledge of pools, operating systems and chemical maintenance.

Additional comments regarding this position
Employee will be expected to perform tasks and handle pool management with minimal daily supervision. Must be independent with the ability to make sound judgements and informed decisions at their discretion. May require evening and weekend work as necessary.
