**This position is currently located within the Department of Public Safety but will transfer to the Department of Adult Correction (DAC) when it is established on January 1st, 2023.***
Reporting to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager II, this position is responsible for first line of supervision of Correctional Sergeants at a multi-custody correctional facility. This position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assuming responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit in the absence of the CHUM II.
- Providing leadership and guidance to subordinate staff and ensuring staff are alert, properly trained, informed and prepared to perform their job responsibilities under a variety of conditions.
- Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
- Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders.
- Communicating effective instruction/direction during drills, searches, and in emergencies situations.
- Responding to emergency situations such as: distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders.
- Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, offender living areas and work areas for contraband.
- Investigating and taking action when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.
- Preparing, reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
- Serving on a variety of institutional committees as needed.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 1pm-9:30pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.
Note to Current State Employees:
The salary grade for this position is NC07 (Salary Range: $34,084 - $59,646). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About Anson Correctional Institution:
Anson Correctional Institution is a multi-custody prison housing medium and close custody female offenders, as well as minimum male offenders. The majority of the offender population is in medium custody.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of correctional experience, one of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification*: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
