We’re currently seeking a talented Cost Engineer. This is a key role at Over J and will help us decide the projected time frame needed to complete a project and additional factors like labor needs, materials, budgets, and potential setbacks. The Cost Engineer will be housed in the Engineering department, will report to the Program Manager, and will work closely with Associate and Project Engineers and Data Analysts. The Cost Engineer will be a full-time position and is expected to work on-site at our Downtown Los Angeles office. The position is open until filled, but we are hoping to have our new Cost Engineer in the saddle by mid-September.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
The Cost Engineer position is a collaborative role and will have a variety of duties. Their responsibilities include:
- Cost Plan Development and Analysis
- Use the cost and schedule plan to determine if project objectives are achievable.
- Create, maintain, and update monthly forecast budgets.
- Forecast costs to complete projects and maintain reports with accuracy.
- Assess and report on project performance using established industry standards.
- Ensure that responses to project budget reflect accurate and current project cost information and stakeholders are in concurrence.
- Communicate project risks related to costs to key stakeholders.
- Assist Project Managers in preparing funding requests to gain project authorization.
- Input data into various programs and prepare various cost and forecasting reports.
- Analyze and validate unauthorized costs to projects and report to Project Managers and Supervisions.
- Verify that project cost and schedule milestones were/were not attained and provide input to identify future process or business improvements and work with responsible parties to implement.
- Manage project funding orders and ensure all required documentation is entered and/or correct in tracking documentation systems.
- Maintain scope change, contingency release, change order, and journal entry logs.
- Maintain written and electronic project documentation and records for required aspects of the project: Maintain project files in accordance with established guidelines and requirements.
- Assist in the closeout process of a project with other departments. Work closely with Project Management to determine required deliverables and expected dates to achieve closeout.
- May provide special reports for supervisor or manager upon request.
Superpowers:
We are looking for a superstar in the field of management of administrative services. You should have the following skills, abilities, and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or relevant degree in Construction Management, Project Management, etc.
- 8-10 years experience as a Cost Engineer or relevant Project Controls experience.
- Utility industry experience desired.
- Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Proficient with computers, including Windows OS, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Experience with Monday.com or other project management software is a plus.
- Highly organized and skilled with time management.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with Cost Engineering software tools.
- Cost experience associated with construction operations experience.
- Accounting/budgeting knowledge.
