Title: Court Report Writer
Unit: Court Advocacy
Reports to: Senior Court Report Writer
Status: Part-Time; Regular; Non-Exempt
Location: Long Island City, NY 11101
Position Summary:
The Court Report Writer will be responsible for preparing and submitting accurate court reports and letters for program participants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interact with court advocates, social workers, counselors/case managers and program directors to develop accurate reports for participants in a number of Fortune programs;
- Develop and edit court reports, constructing narratives detailing clients’ progress or lack thereof, and involvement in the program, and other documents for the Courts;
- Conduct research in internal database to ensure accuracy of report, which includes clients’ attendance and toxicology results;
- Submit edited reports to appropriate staff members for signature; revisions of reports when necessary;
- Distribute submitted court reports to court advocates and appropriate staff members for their files;
- Prioritize daily court reports;
- Draft letters to outside agencies verifying client participation in treatment;
- Data entry in internal database to ensure court report status and progress;
- Assist in tracking and centrally recording information in internal database related to client court matters;
- Maintain security of centralized confidential client records;
- Attend departmental meetings and case conferences; and
- Perform other related duties as needed including providing administrative assistance and coverage.
- High school diploma or GED/HSE required, Bachelor’s degree preferred;
- 1 to 2 years of experience in social services related field;
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Word and entering information into a database;
- Must possess a solid knowledge of editing and grammar usage and have strong writing skills;
- Familiarity with the Criminal Justice system and legal terminology;
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; and
- Ability to be self-motivated in performing work and work effectively as a team member and with other staff members of the agency; and
- Talented, dedicated individual from any walk of life who possesses a strong commitment to Fortune’s mission. Relevant personal experience is a plus.
