SUMMARY
The Crop Science Technologist I will be trained to analyze samples and compile and report data with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS' analytical SOPs. Work independently directly under a supervisor and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met. Always follow safe laboratory practices and maintain a safe working environment.
JOB FUNCTIONS
- After appropriate training independently, prepare, conduct, evaluate, record, analyze, and summarize samples and data utilizing SGS SOPS and methods and industry information in seed testing, genetic purity testing, and/or laboratory research including monitoring for irregularities in testing and results
- Expand knowledge and professionalism in seed, genetic testing, and other technology by participating in in-house continuing education, enrolling in relevant coursework, attending workshops, participating in professional seed technology committees and associations
- Performs routine operation, maintenance, calibration of prep instruments/equipment
- Inputs and maintains technical information as needed to support the laboratory functions/operations
- Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures including HSE, OI and ISO policies and regulations
- Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate Degree in Agricultural or Biological Science or related fields (Required)
- 0-3 years of experience in Seed or plant research/testing, or biological laboratory setting (Required)
- Bachelors Degree in Agricultural or Biological Science or related fields (Preferred)
- Some relevant experience in Seed or plant research or testing (Preferred)
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS
- Society of Commercial Seed Technologist Certification or Membership (Preferred)
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
- Language Skills: English (Required)
- Mathematical Skills: Basic (Required)
- Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Basic (Required)
COMPUTER SKILLS
- Computer Skills: Basic (Required)

- This job operates in a laboratory environment. This role routinely uses standard laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
