Position Summary: The Laboratory Technician I will run samples that come into the lab from many different departments. They are responsible for making sure the instruments are running properly, all QC criteria are met, and the data is reported accurately. The Laboratory Technician I will demonstrate professional appearance, behavior, and attitude at all times while performing his/her job duties.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Calibrate instruments
  • Run QC checks and validate they are within acceptable range
  • Run samples
  • Prioritize samples as needed
  • Dump waste daily
  • Empty garbage, sweep, and mop as needed
  • Communicate well with other team members
  • Complete projects in a timely manner
  • Report data accurately
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Abilities, Experience, Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of arithmetic and grammar.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions in English
  • Work as a team and independently.
  • Demonstrate professional appearance, behavior and attitude at all times while performing job duties.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is expected.
  • Work Safely, do not put yourself or others at risk
  • Maintain a clean working environment

Working Conditions: Duties are generally performed indoors in a Laboratory environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. When working in the presence of safety hazards, the employee is expected to follow company safety rules and use proper personal protective equipment such as: hardhat, safety glasses and full leather shoes, etc. MLI is an alcohol and drug free workplace. Employees will work in a covered Process Safety Management (PSM) environment containing threshold quantities of flammable liquids and/or gasses that have a potential for fire or explosion. Employees working in this environment are required to be free from devices that are not considered intrinsically safe. Examples of devices that may not be intrinsically safe include Insulin Pumps, Pacemakers, Pain Management devices, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and listen. The employee is frequently required to handle and use objects, controls or keyboards; reach with hands and arms; kneel, crouch and occasionally climb. The employee frequently works with computer systems that require coordination and attention to detail.

The employee may occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds without assistance and with assistance of greater weight. Specific vision abilities required are color perception, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
