Overview

Devis is seeking a technical Data Scientist to join our growing organization and help drive our Transportation Security Administration program to success in Washington, DC.

The goal of this position is support The Secure Flight program, via the IT/Performance Engineering Branch, in conjunction with the IT Technology Solutions Division program (Transportation Vetting System (TVS), Consolidated Screening Gateway (CSG), and Technology Infrastructure Modernization (TIM) requires development support.

***This will be in support of a proposal effort – contingent offers will be extended***


Specific responsibilities include but not limited to
:

  • Develop predictive statistical models
  • Develop custom analytics to drive risk-based decision making
  • Develop code using a variety of languages such as: Python, R, Java, SQL, and Scala.
  • Selecting features, building, and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques
  • Develops valid statistical sample data sets and training data sets for model development
  • Evaluate statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data in order to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy
  • Data mining using state-of-the-art methods to Interpret trends, patterns, and conducts complex data analysis and reports on results
  • Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
  • Creating automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance
  • Develop, validate, and implement models to solve problems/answer questions and forecast potential outcomes to include stochastics
  • Convert business problems into mathematical approaches and techniques that are valid, reproducible, and defensible
  • Collaborate with team members by advising/guiding staff on statistical matters/approaches; and perform peer reviews of analytical/statistical results
  • Follow Agile analytics lifecycle of discuss-define-design-develop-deliver iteratively and incrementally while producing actionable insights
  • Routinely engage in quantitative, qualitative, and continuous improvement analysis on non-standard and unique business and technical problems in an ad hoc fashion resulting from dynamic mission needs
  • Present and explain presentations, reports, and findings to clients
  • Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills
  • Participates in special projects as required


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Candidate must have experience working within the TSA agency
  • A minimum of two years of technical data science experience
  • Experience with diverse sets of data relevant to the information environment
  • Experience applying machine-learning techniques to operations and research
  • Experience with R, SQL and Python and familiarity with Scala, Java or C++
  • Experience performing statistics and developing models using one or more of the following statistical applications with the ability to adapt to any available: R, Spark, Zeppelin, etc.
  • Extensive expertise and experience in applied statistics which must include converting a business problem (word problem) into a mathematical problem without assistance or direction
  • “Big Data” expertise to include distributed file systems, parallel processing and nonrelational data representations
  • Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Oracle)
  • Experience in data mining and data cleansing
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude, data intuition, and excellent presentation/communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to apply Agile methods (SAFe/Scrum) to data science projects where models/capabilities are developed and delivered iteratively and incrementally
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and concurrent time-sensitive reviews
  • Ability to establish and foster effective client and team relationships


Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university
  • Masters or PhD in Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science (preferred)


Clearance Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Secret clearance - preferred
