Richmond Metropolitan Transportation Authority is seeking a Deputy Director of Operations to assist the Director of Operations with overseeing the general operation of RMTA. Performs complex professional and difficult administrative work overseeing preliminary engineering, contract administration, construction monitoring, roadway maintenance, project acceptance as well as the janitorial, maintenance and landscaping of the Richmond Metropolitan Transportation Authority (RMTA) facilities and properties.
Responsibilities include performing diverse and highly technical work involving significant accountability and responsibility. The position receives only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Engineering (Civil or Structural Engineering preferred); minimum two (2) years of construction and/or civil engineering experience, preferably in transportation field; and at least two (2) years of experience supervising employees, OR any combination of experience education and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Required certification: Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE)
Preferred Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Principles and practices of structural engineering as related to preparation of plans and specifications, design, construction and maintenance.
- Procedures and standards of facilities management including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, as well as janitorial, maintenance and landscaping activities.
- Principles and practices of supervision and administration.
- Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of subordinate supervisory and non-supervisory employees in all operational aspects.
- Ability to manage, motivate and communicate effectively with employees.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of staff, management and the general public.
Special Requirements
Must be able to work flexible hours. Must be accessible by phone 24 hours and 7 days a week for all accidents deemed serious or fatal, except when on approved leave.
Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

Must be able to successfully complete a related job knowledge/skill activity.
Ability to successfully pass drug screening and criminal history background check.
