Essential Function
The Development Associate’s role is to lead and support fundraising activity in Newark. The position will have a relentless focus on donor and volunteer experience and liaise with the DHQ Development department, ensuring consistent, positive messaging.
Duties and Responsibilities

Annual Giving Campaign
- Create, implement, and evaluate the organization’s annual fund campaign, reports, and other relevant correspondence, in addition to Salvation Army Direct Mail Program.
- Work together with the Divisional Development department to ensure effective and efficient utilization of the donor database. Manage database including data entry, data quality, cash and in-kind donations, production of reports, tax receipts, credit card donations, and recurring gifts.
- Research, build, and maintain database profile records.
- Work together with the Divisional Development department to document all donor and data processes.
- Create, implement, and evaluate strategies that lead to sound donor cultivation, prospecting, segmenting, acknowledgment, recognition, and stewardship.
- Work closely with Divisional Donor Relations Director to ensure proper moves management.
- Oversee all reporting tied to data needed for creating the philanthropy plan as well as for board, committee, and leadership meetings.
Communications and Media
- Work closely with Divisional Communications Director and team to ensure that website is current and updated regularly.
- Develop a social media strategy and implement the strategy. Manage and monitor all media channels, ensuring that posts create a high level of engagement; track engagement.
- Produce fresh electronic and print content that is engaging and leads to measurable action.
- Develop positive and productive relationships with media contacts, determining to whom, where, and when to disseminate information for maximum impact. Ensure that The Salvation Army brand is represented clearly and authentically.
Events
- Plan, coordinate, execute, and support special events for The Salvation Army in Newark. Support and provide leadership to existing events like Spring Warm-Up and Kettle Campaign.
- Create a playbook for each event and work together with Advisory Board and staff to execute according to plan and budget.
Miscellaneous
- Work together with DOA, Advisory Board, and divisional Development department to develop and manage an annual development plan.

- Have a relentless focus on the donor and volunteer experience, ensuring that there is a high level of service.
- Act as the staff liaison for Echelon.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with one year of relevant experience in philanthropy/customer service/sales or event management.
- Project management experience with strong computer skills, with specific proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel). Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to interact with stakeholders to promote affinity for the agency.
- Ability to initiate projects, be flexible, and work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people and prioritize appropriately when facing multiple responsibilities and tasks.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army and its core values.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
