Department Description

The CLEAR (Clarity and Leadership for Environmental Awareness and Research) Center at UC Davis has the mission to conduct research to benchmark and mitigate the environmental impacts of livestock and poultry agriculture. Furthermore, CLEAR has a communication mission to disseminate research information and inform interested stakeholders, public policy players, and the public at large. The CLEAR Center is structured into a research and a communication core.

Job Summary

Under general direction of the Associate Director of Communications for the CLEAR Center, the social media specialist will be responsible for bringing to life CLEAR Center’s research and messages with speed and conviction on the Center’s social media accounts and website, while maintaining high standards for original concept and detailed execution. The CLEAR Center’s communication team is responsible for taking complex scientific information and research, and communicating that to the various audiences. The social media specialist is responsible for strategizing and sharing content on social media, curating and creating timely content for the center’s home site, ensuring search engine optimization (SEO) and user experience (UX). The social media specialist also researches storytelling and content marketing opportunities that will improve traffic and visibility to the site. This position will work in tandem with researchers, as well as other communicators across campus.

  • Work flexible schedule including occasional evenings/nights and weekends hours to meet operational needs.

  • Occasional travel to attend meetings, conferences and events including occasional overnight travel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (advertising, communications, public relations, journalism, Interactive Media, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience building social media plans, organizing projects and teams, and executing plans.
  • Experience developing and curating content for web and digital communications platforms.
  • Experience analyzing and reporting performance in various social media channels, and making necessary adjustments and optimizations in order to meet stated objectives.
  • Experience meeting tight deadlines and balancing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, with minimal supervision, and coordinating the work of contributors with attention to detail, while completing projects with excellence.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Knowledge of all aspects of social media communications including strategic planning for various channels, technical aspects and requirements of various channels, and most appropriate and effective applications to create, develop, and implement long and short-term strategic communication plans.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Experience purchasing social media advertising, including testing content to determine effectiveness.
  • Experience with science communication, creating and identifying quality content related to a variety of academic and research topics.
  • Experience applying judgment and discretion when working with highly sensitive and confidential information.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Ability to create and edit digital graphics and photographs, style text for digital use, design web pages and websites.
