Role Summary

This Director, Ground Support Equipment role sets the long-term strategy that drives safety, operational, compliance standards for the Ground Support Equipment Department. As a people leader, this role oversees the Ground Support Equipment department and establishes strategic goals that support activities for both Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

Key Duties

• Set long term strategy for developing and implementing safety, operational and compliance standards for ground support equipment that ensures all work groups meet or exceed their operational performance goals.
• Direct activities for 3rd party Ground Support Equipment maintenance providers to ensure safety and operational excellence.
• Shape culture of the team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.
• Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and disciplines.
• Oversee adherence to all applicable regulatory and compliance guidelines and that operations are performed with safety as the paramount concern.
• Set long-term strategy for equipment purchases and performance improvements by performing special analysis and reviews for new system implementations, new programs and/or enhancements to improve operational performance.
• Establish formal written proposals or business cases supporting recommended changes.
• Influence and provide strategic recommendations to enterprise leaders in operational teams within AOCS, Maintenance & Engineering, Flight Operations, IT, and other divisions to ensure effective alignment and to share best practices.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

• A minimum of 8 years of practical ground support equipment maintenance experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience, with at least 2 years of experience leading teams of people to achieve companywide goals and initiatives.
• A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, or an additional 2 years of experience in lieu of this degree.
• Strong understanding of ground support systems and processes.
• Proven project and change management skills and a thirst for applying research and best practices to existing business problems.
• Excellent communication (verbal, written, presentation), influence, and motivational skills.
• Proven ability to leverage business acumen and analytic capability to position the organization as a critical business partner.
• Demonstrated ability to develop new ideas to improve safety, compliance, efficiency, and cost.
• Strong track record effectively managing teams, with experience developing and mentoring employees through engagement.
• Proven ability to influence change around company strategies and initiate actions that have a strategic impact.
• Exceptional integrity with impeccable ethics in safety and compliance.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, including international travel.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum age of 18.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

• A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree.
• ASE Certification.
• Technical trade school in repair and maintenance.
• Electric powered vehicle experience.
