Occupational Summary
The Director of Multicultural Engagement and Campus Life will be responsible for the strategic leadership and day-to-day operations that include coordination of various diversity programs on campus, provide intentional opportunities for student development and leadership and aid in providing for the transitional needs of new students and their families. This position will work collaboratively with all members of the Student Life staff and all university departments. It is essential that this individual be available and accessible to students, maintain and respect issues of confidentiality, and serve as a role model and an educator for students.

This position is responsible for cultivating and maintaining the institution's Catholic identity and its mission to empower graduates to transform society. As a member of the Newman community, the staff member will join with the institution's sponsors, the Adorers of the Blood of Christ (ASC Sisters), to witness God's love in Mission to empower others, foster oneness, celebrate life, form right relationships, and walk as compassionate companions. Additionally, this position contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other faiths, cultures, or backgrounds.
Work Performed:
- Assist in the planning and development of programs for the office surrounding the topics of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Assist in the development of procedures to initiate and maintain contacts with ethnic minority students.
- Assist in the management of social media outlets and marketing communications.
- Develop robust programs that assist multicultural underrepresented students in achieving academic success.
- The Director of Multicultural Engagement and the Director of Student Activities together will plan and execute New Student Orientation and Commencement activities, including serving on the Commencement Committee and coordinating the volunteers for student marshals.
- Facilitate communications within the multicultural student communities at NU on issues of common concern and represent these various points of view to staff.
- Direct and administer system-wide co-curricular events, including the forecasting, planning, development, promotion and evaluation of programs and services that are focused on providing a diverse student body with opportunities for personal growth and leadership.
- Assist the Dean of Students in the development, implementation, staffing and assessment of student life.
- Oversee operation of budget for areas of multicultural engagement, campus life, and new student orientation.
- Assess and evaluate pre and post learning outcomes and data assessment to determine trends and accomplishments.
- Plan, develop and execute campus wide traditional events.
- Complete University-required trainings, including FERPA and Title IX.
- Contribute to the overall success of the Student Life department by performing all other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.
- Assist with admissions recruitment as needed.
Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Knowledge of student development and retention theories and best practices in their application.
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, event planning and implementation.
- General advocacy experience with college students and families.
- Must be an energetic, collaborative, student-centered professional who enjoys working with students, families and colleagues; dedicated to creating opportunities that foster student engagement, development and learning.
- Strong verbal, interpersonal, public presentation, and written communication skills required.
- Must have attention to detail.
- Experience in supervision, advising, training, and/or diversity is preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
