Director of Public Safety
Job description
- Provide strategic vision, leadership and direction to the University Police Department while creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
- Develop, recommend and oversee implementation and administration of operational plans, policies and procedures while adhering to State, Local and University laws pertaining to law enforcement.
- Provide oversight for the day to day operation of the public safety department.
- Ensure public safety department practices pertaining to recruitment and staffing, training and supervision are in compliance with university goals and objectives.
- Act as liaison with outside law enforcement and regulatory agencies and other departmental units.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Must provide evidence of eligibility to meet Maryland Certification as a Police Officer.
- Progressive leadership experience in a criminal justice organization.
- Strong leadership and motivational capabilities.
- Familiarity with budgets is essential.
- Computer literacy.
- Experience in a college or university setting
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, managerial, and communication skills.
- Ability to work and lead in a diverse environment.
- Must be able to establish performance goals and assist staff members in developing a plan to meet those goals.
- Extensive knowledge of state and federal statutes.
- Maryland Police Training Commission Certification required or must provide evidence of eligibility to meet Maryland Certification as a Police Officer.
