City Garden Montessori School is seeking an experienced leader to oversee and implement all day-to-day staff recruitment, hiring, advancement, retention, human resources, and personnel compliance functions for the organization. The Director will ensure that City Garden Montessori School (CGMS) has the systems and procedures in place to support effective acquisition and stewardship of all staff, while ensuring adherence to the annual budget. As a member of the leadership team, the Director of Talent and Culture will be involved in a range of strategic planning and internal initiatives.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Talent and Culture will work directly with principals and other school leadership to ensure that CGMS’s hiring, personnel evaluation, and retention objectives are met. They will continually evaluate best practices in comparison to internal systems and needed resources, with an eye toward current, as well as future needs for organizational growth.
The Most Exciting Part of the Job
- Relationship building, networking, outreach, develop candidate pathways, with a focus on building relationships with candidates of color and other historically marginalized candidates
- Partnering with managers and supervisors to establish clear expectations and systems of accountability
- Establishing and managing a pathway program for employees to obtain training and certification in the areas that are beneficial to the organization as a whole
- Planning for each school year’s expected staffing needs
- Identifying employee training needs based on policies and procedures

Recruitment and Hiring of New Staff
- Following the established objectives and timelines of the City Garden Talent Calendar, design recruitment strategies
- Establish and implement a comprehensive onboarding program
Employee Retention and Stewardship
- Design an onboarding program for new City Garden employees
- Work toward a cohesive culture at City Garden
- Development of staff to ensure that pathways are created to advance the objectives of the organization
Staffing
- Following the established objectives and timelines of the City Garden Talent Calendar, design staffing strategies
- Manage annual staff contracting process
General Human Resources
- Ensure that CGMS is compliant with all labor laws - city, state, and federal - and that our policies are reflective of such
- Assist in the development and management of CGMS’s administration of compensation and benefits
- Act as liaison between employees and senior leadership
- Identify employee training needs based on policies and procedures, and ensure that training ensues
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is required, SHRM affiliation is preferred
- At least 5-10 years of overall professional experience; ideally 4+ years of management experience
- Demonstrated experience in designing processes and training large groups of people
- Have a strong grounding in anti-bias education and antiracist values and principles, and is excited to be a member of leadership in an organization that is reimagining education, and the workplace, through these lenses
- Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution
- Experience effectively communicating, including presentations, to senior management, the Board or other outside partners/influencers/clients
- Organization development, human resources procedures management experience
- Proven effectiveness managing others, empowering them to make decisions
- Excellent interpersonal and team skills, extremely collegial
- Outstanding communications skills, written and oral
- Demonstrated resourcefulness and good judgment
- Hands-on, leads by example
- Ability to multi-task while maintaining vigilant attention to details
- Integrity/ethics beyond reproach
- Constantly looking to apply best practice
Compensation
This is full-time, 12 month position (July 1 through June 30), with an annual salary range of $75,000 to $90,000, commensurate with education and relevant experience.
