Essential Function
The Director of SA-BGCN oversees the implementation of high-quality youth development programs that support positive youth development aligned with The Salvation Army's mission. The Director will supervise Site Coordinators, Youth Development Specialists, and AmeriCorps Members, providing professional development, coaching, and strategic oversight to ensure programs are effective and executed in compliance with all licensing and funder requirements.
A successful director will: bring a positive youth development lens to the role; prioritize, delegate, and manage complex tasks effectively; implement systems and structures to provide exemplary coaching to Site Coordinators; hold themselves and others accountable for program results; have a growth mindset.
Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Program Management
- Manage all aspects of OST (Out of School Time) programs, including program design, development, implementation, and assessment.
- Design and oversee the delivery of professional development experiences for Site Coordinators,including but not limited to onboarding, pre-service orientation, in-service training, coaching, peer mentoring, and shadowing opportunities.
- Conduct regular site visits, providing structured feedback to Site Coordinators and line staff.
- Create and oversee systems to track and analyze student data (attendance, academic performance, social/emotional development); lead continuous improvement efforts.
- Identify and vet high-quality enrichment curricula; support Site Coordinators to implement curricula with fidelity.
- Develop and maintain relationships with school and community partners.
- Ensure programs and staff performance align with the organization's mission and performance standards.
- Represent Salvation Army Newark in coalitions, affinity groups, and other meetings and events.
- Oversee comprehensive family engagement strategy, including communication methods, parent workshops, and meetings.
- Facilitate weekly Site Coordinator meetings, establishing clear meeting objectives and documenting program successes, needs, and next steps.
- Work with Site Coordinators and school partners to hire and train line staff. Oversee grants administration required by contracts, including evaluation, grant reporting, budget management, and Human Resources documentation; manage DOE and OJJP grant applications and reports as needed.
- Collaborate with the Development Department on fundraising initiatives to enhance programming.
AmeriCorps Program & Grant Management
- Manage AmeriCorps Program, maintain program manuals and handbooks, maintain official program records, and develop procedures to implement the program effectively.
- Draft, review, and submit AmeriCorps applications.
- Develop and submit Grantee Progress Reports to AmeriCorps.
- Establish and maintain Member files, monitor Members timesheets, and ensure proper recording for remuneration.
- Meet with Members individually to ensure satisfaction with the program, track progress toward career and educational goals, and track progress toward meeting service hour requirements.
- Develop and conduct Site Supervisor orientations, meeting with Site Supervisors monthly to ensure program goals are met.
- Develop and maintain files for all Site Agreements.
- Develop training programs and implement all details for Member Pre-Service Orientations.
- Develop and implement all monthly Member training.
- May be required to drive a Salvation Army van periodically.
- Other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of direct experience working with school-aged children aged 5-18; Boys & Girls Club experience strongly preferred, with two (2) years' experience in leadership/supervisory roles.
- Proficient with computer applications, including databases, Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Understanding of Programs for Parents and experience in revenue tracking.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred; must be willing to get certified within first 90 days.
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with above-average attention to detail.
- Valid NJ Driver's license and clean driving record; must be approved to drive Salvation Army vehicles.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
