Position Summary:
The ECPP Teacher Coordinator is an hourly teacher leadership position in the Summer Early College Preparatory Programs (ECPP). Each Coordinator will be assigned to take the lead on certain operational and instructional aspects of the programs (i.e. field trips, recreational activities, teacher meetings, code of conduct, communication with families and school partners, scheduling, managing Teaching Assistants, substitute teachers, and more).
This position is in-person, 7 hours each day for 22 days (Monday - Thursday), starting on Monday June 26th and ending on Thursday August 10th. The day begins at 8:30 and ends at 4:30 (with an unpaid lunch hour). Hourly compensation is determined upon hire but is not less than $40.00/hour.

Essential Functions:
  • Must be available to work in person June 2023-August 2023
- Must attend one 2.5 hour training on May 23, 2023 4 - 6:30 pm OR Jun 7, 2023 4:30 - 7:00 pm ; a virtual logistics meeting on Jun 15, 2023 4 pm - 6 pm ; summer program orientation on Jun 17, 2023 8 am - 12 pm ; and two preparation days on Jun 28, 2023 and Jun 29, 2023 from 9 am - 3 pm
  • Create an environment of respect and rapport through positive interactions with students and promoting positive interactions between students.
Establish a culture for learning by emphasizing the importance of learning, having high expectations for all learners and cultivating an environment where students take pride in their work.
  • Effectively manage classroom procedures such as instructional groupings, transitions from one activity to another, preparation/distribution/collection of materials and supplies, and daily routines.
  • Manage student behavior by setting and clearly communicating expectations, monitoring student behavior and responding to inappropriate behavior immediately.
  • Communicate effectively with students and teaching assistants about expectations, directions and explanations of content.
  • Effectively use questioning and discussion techniques to engage students in learning and solicit evidence of understanding.
  • Design engaging activities that are implemented with structure and appropriate pacing.
  • Utilize effective strategies to determine student starting points, set clear criteria for assessment, monitor student learning and determine learning outcomes.
  • Show professionalism through thoughtful planning of instruction, preparation of classroom and materials prior to class, maintaining a safe and orderly classroom, communicating with CPCP Staff, ethical decision-making, developing healthy and appropriate relationships with staff and students, documenting student progress and contributing to the overall success of the CPCP summer programs.

Additional Functions:
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Attend the parent/student orientation
  • Work closely, cooperatively and amicably with other staff members

Prerequisite Qualifications:
  • NJ Teacher certification (elementary, middle or high school)
  • Demonstrated track record of teacher leadership roles
  • NJ Supervisor or Principal Certification strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of and commitment to culturally responsive classroom instruction
  • Strong ethical decision-making skills
  • Understanding of the Danielson Framework for Teaching
  • Background check
  • Possesses good leadership abilities and communication skills
  • Experienced in hands-on activities and cooperative learning and teaching
  • Familiar with various assessment techniques including student portfolios and rubrics
  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be waived where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position
