The primary local media company in one of the fastest growing, most affluent communities in the United States is looking for an Editor.

The Forsyth County News is a digital and print news company located in the northern Atlanta suburbs. We are looking for someone who understands where community media is going in the future and how to get there as a financially successful business.

Our next Editor will lead a newsroom staff of five in planning and executing news coverage strategies for the community. We need someone who can lead by example as a reporter, plan graphically as a visual journalist, execute a social media strategy and strategize with our director of audience in mapping out coverage using analytical data from our readers.

We publish to our website daily, have two print editions and three e-editions each week, have a monthly community magazine, a variety of special niche products and host numerous community events. In addition, we are constantly updating social media.

Responsibilities include planning content for print and online, covering events and reporting, photography, working with staff on story creation, coordinating with advertising to create revenue opportunities, posting online and to social media, and generally being responsible for the operation and oversight of our small office.

FCN is one of three media properties owned by Metro Market Media in the north Atlanta area, all under the direction of the same publisher.

Required experience: 5 years in newspapers or other related media, including some experience supervising others.

Qualifications:

• Ability to become “the face” of the company within the community.
• Ability to write coherently and to accurately report on events.
• Ability to work with other writers to improve content.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Photography skills are a plus.
• Ability to become part of a business community and to represent the newspaper in a professional manner at all times.
• Ability to consistently meet all production deadlines.
• Knowledge of social media from a business perspective is a plus.
