Job purpose

Responsible for ensuring compliance with legal requirements and environmental regulations. Ensures that environmental and safety objectives are achieved consistent with company policies. Understands the environmental aspects, impacts, objectives and targets of General Aluminum and how these factors affect day-to-day operations. Maintains good housekeeping, safety and environmental standards. Ensures that employees understand their roles, responsibilities and accountabilities to the system.

Duties and responsibilities

• Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations .
• Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment and other materials.
• Ensures regular departmental safety audits are performed to detect existing or potential accident / health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
• Conducts monthly safety committee meetings.
• Maintains a list of hazardous materials and substances used in the company.
• Ensures that governmental regulations with regard to labeling, safe handling, storage, first-aid, elimination /disposal of hazardous materials are known and are observed.
• Provides information, signs, posters, barriers and other materials to warn of potential /actual safety hazards.
• Participates in the investigation of accidents / injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization for use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations.
• Responsible for environmental/safety reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Assists with the administration of worker’s compensation programs, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time.
• Aware of consequences to the customer, environment and the employee, if procedures are not followed.
• Assures all safety policies, company policies and procedures are implemented and followed in compliance with government regulations. Maintains the Quality and Environmental Management System certifications.
• All other duties as deemed necessary.

Qualifications

• Required – 2 yr. college degree or university program certificate or 2-4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Required - Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws, polices, and rules. Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance as determined by company. Must be regularly available to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week. Must be available and willing to work such overtime as is necessary or desirable to meet business needs.

Working conditions and environment

Noise may exceed 85db must wear hearing protection. Exposure to extreme heat.

Normal equipment used

Safety glasses, hearing protection and steel toed shoes are required while in the production areas.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year

Schedule:

• 10 hour shift
• 8 hour shift
• Weekend availability
