Position Summary: Support achievement by coordinating family engagement and community outreach for multilingual learners to prepare for college and career success. Design and implement programs and activities to raise awareness and increase access to post-high school opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Oklahoma teacher certification, English as a second language preferred
  • Bilingual in English and target language, preferred
  • Three years teaching or counseling experience at the secondary school level

Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions.

  • Contact parents and families through phone calls, home visits, and meetings at school or district in order to encourage participation in school and/or district activities and events for post-high school readiness
  • Engage with families to identify their needs and challenges through various engagements including focus groups, surveys, meetings, home visits, etc. to engage in post-high school readiness opportunities
  • Provide information and assistance to parents and students regarding post-high school opportunities, including schools, careers, scholarships, etc., including considerations for undocumented students
  • Contact outside community agencies for the purpose of seeking resources and activities that will support the post-high school readiness opportunities for multilingual learners
  • Review credits and graduation paths of multilingual learners to ensure they are enrolled in the correct classes
  • Work with language and cultural services department to finalize transcript evaluation and graduation plan
  • Check in regularly with multilingual learners to talk about failing grades, school challenges, graduation plans, and career goals
  • Follow up with multilingual learners on attendance, grades, and/or behavior issues as needed
  • Provide direct and hands-on support in completing post-high school opportunity applications
  • Collaborate with counselors about the specific needs of multilingual learners in schools
  • Maintain accurate records of all activities provided
  • Promotes the overall effectiveness of the organization by performing tasks and sharing responsibilities with other members of the department/division during peak periods.
  • Volunteer as opportunities present to provide student support (i.e., Reading Partners, field trip chaperones, etc.)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others on a team.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

Skills and Abilities Required: The following characteristics and physical skills are important for the successful performance of assigned duties.

  • Oral and literacy proficiency in English and target language
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills
  • Knowledge of post-high school opportunities for multilingual learner students, including any criteria, requirements, or regulation applicable
  • Knowledge of graduation requirements in the district and the state
  • Cultural competency and a desire to learn more about working with new and diverse populations
  • Sensitivity and compassion toward immigrants, refugees, asylees, and other recently arrived students and families
  • Strong rapport and relationship building skills with both district, school staff and students and families
  • Must have flexibility to work some evenings and weekends for position related events
  • Experience in the use of technology and the use of Office products
  • Ability to document project-related activities and findings to communicate with collaborators and others involved
  • Use of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Ability to surface insight and learnings from multiple sources
  • Ability to create space for productive debate and alternative perspectives
  • Ability to work on multiple fast-paced, projects of varying complexity with tight deadlines, continually adapting to changing priorities
  • Ability to execute, delegate effectively, and ensure project tasks are completed
  • Understands organizational structure, functional areas, and priorities and how to work within them to achieve project goals
  • High comfort level with technology and the ability to troubleshoot issues and adept at learning new programs/platforms/applications quickly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This role does not directly supervise any individuals but will lead ad hoc and cross- functional project teams

Working Conditions: Exposure to the following situations may range from rare to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.

  • Regular office environment, including frequent use of electronic email, being able to sit for long periods of time without a break, etc.
  • Travel to multiple school locations for meetings and services
  • Drive to and from school buildings to work with school staff, walking through school buildings and helping staff lift and move things in classrooms as needed
  • Must be mobile in order to attend events and meetings outside of regular work hours
  • Subject to stress caused by changing environment, complexity of the organization, tight deadlines and heavy workload
  • Normal effort of occasional periods of light physical activity
