Job description

Sun Prairie, Wis.

Are you a problem solver? Are you an analytical “numbers” person as well as a good communicator? Do you like variety in the work you do and enjoy learning? If so, WPPI Energy is seeking an individual like you to join our Rates and Billing area as a Rate Analyst, supporting its core function of developing and analyzing retail electricity rates for our 51 member communities. You will work both independently and collaboratively on projects that have both short-and long-term deadlines. No experience in the electric industry is needed and ample training will be provided.

This is your opportunity to work for one of the Greater Madison Area’s 2022 Top Workplaces and be part of our excellent company culture! WPPI Energy is proud to provide our staff with a flexible and employee-friendly work environment. In addition, we offer competitive pay and an exceptional benefits package including medical, dental, vision, short/long-term disability, life insurance and access to the State of Wisconsin Retirement Plans (WRS, a defined benefit pension and the Wisconsin Deferred Compensation 457 plan). Additionally, we provide paid sick, vacation, holidays, parental leave, and educational reimbursement, along with professional development opportunities, wellness programs and so much more!

Besides the desire to work at a great company and be part of making our member communities thrive, as a member of the Rates team, you will apply your full range of skills to:

  • Facilitate electric cost-of-service studies, revenue requirement studies and rate design on behalf of WPPI Energy members.
  • Represent members’ interest in regulatory (Public Service Commission – PSC) electric rate hearings.
  • Assist in the development of alternative and advanced retail electric rates.
  • Maintain effective business relationships and communication with member staff, PSC staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop financial benchmarking studies comparing financial ratios of member utilities to other similar-sized municipal utilities.
  • Develop retail rate benchmarking studies that compare rate initiatives implemented by the member and the overall membership.
  • Assist with responses to a variety of data requests.

Qualified candidates will preferably have:

  • A bachelor’s degree, or associate degree with three-years’ work experience, in a field such as economics, engineering, mathematics, or business.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude, attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, a customer service mindset, and a willingness to learn and contribute wherever possible.

WPPI is a member-owned, not-for-profit organization serving 51 locally owned electric utilities. Together, WPPI members have built a diverse, competitive, and responsible power supply. They share modern technologies and forward-thinking services, and they speak with a unified voice advocating for effective energy policy. WPPI Energy is an equal opportunity employer.
