Job Summary:
This position is responsible for performing a variety of administrative and technical work/specialized functions associated with fire prevention, including inspections, education, and investigations associated with protecting life and property. This Position assists the Fire Chief in setting goals for the department pertaining to Life Safety Code, establishing policies and procedures, handling grievances, preparing the budget, makes disciplinary recommendations grant management, and periodically reviewing equipment for safety. This position will directly supervise the Lieutenant of Fire Prevention and the Community Risk Officer, ensuring that fire prevention, fire safety education and continued community education for fire safety and CPR.
Job Requirements:
Applicant must possess a high school diploma or GED supplemented by college level course work or vocational training in a related field, along with five (5) years continuous service including experience in fire suppression, inspections, education, and investigations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred. Certifications: Georgia State Certified Firefighter (NPQ II preferred); Georgia State Certified Fire Inspector II, Georgia State Certified Fire and Life Safety Educator, Georgia State Certified Arson/Fire Investigator, Certified Plan Review Officer; CEM (Preferred), P.O.S.T. Peace Officer Certification (preferred); NIMS 100, 200, 700 and 800; Incident Safety Officer; Building Construction: Combustible and Non-combustible; Structural Fire Control and Incident Command System. Additional Requirements: ability to communicate with the public effectively and courteously on a daily basis and utilize computer software such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Firehouse. Applicant must possess or obtain a valid Georgia Driver’s License and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Applicant must meet all in-house testing requirements; pass a background check and drug screening.
