Job description

The Irvine Ranch Water District is currently accepting applications for an Engineering Technician who direct supervision, will plan, organize and perform a variety of clerical and technical duties including research and projects for the Engineering department.

Summary of Duties

Provide general clerical and administrative support to the entire Engineering department.

Provide public counter assistance and support. Answer department phone line and route calls to appropriate personnel.

Perform a variety of clerical tasks including typing or data entry, proofreading, editing, and ordering of office supplies and equipment.

Respond to inquiries and requests from customers.

Process non-residential service and meter applications including the preparation of application, work order and permit, and the calculation and collection of connection fees.

Maintain Development Services records and database for preparation of periodic reports.

Prepare and maintain Development Services plan check files.

Calculate residential connection fees and prepare service agreements and bond forms.

Organize and maintain documents in Content Manager according to District retention policy.

Type correspondence and reports, sort and distribute department mail, arrange and coordinate meetings, and copy and assemble documents.

Prepare a variety of complex written materials including letters, notices, memorandums, forms and contracts.

Responsible for all other work-related duties as assigned.

Comply with District work-related safety practices and attend relevant safety training.

Qualifications

Education:
  • High school graduation or equivalent. For degrees obtained outside of the U.S., an official equivalency evaluation is required.

  • College level coursework desirable.


Experience:

  • Two years of clerical/office administration experience required.
  • General understanding of civil engineering construction plans and legal real estate property descriptions desired.

Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of office/field employees and management. Effectively and professionally, represent District’s interests with other agencies, vendors, regulators, and the public. Ability to explain, demonstrate and clarify to others within well-established policies, procedures and standards, as well as the ability to follow specific instructions and respond to simple and difficult requests from others. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Mathematical Ability
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and calculate percentages, fractions and decimals. Ability to convert water equivalents.

Technology Ability
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Keyboarding abilities sufficient to perform the job.

Judgment and Situational Reasoning Ability
Ability to use good judgment in performing influence functions such as supervising, managing, leading, teaching and directing assigned staff. Ability to use good judgment in decision making with customers.

Physical Requirement
Regularly required to sit, walk, bend, stand and stoop. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. on a routine basis.

Environmental Adaptability
Noise level is generally equivalent to a typical office environment.
