Position Summary:
Biodiversity and landscape management are critical pieces of a comprehensive sustainability plan for the University of Idaho. Some endorsed goals involving our campus landscape include becoming both a certified Bee Campus and achieving Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf (ACSP) certification for our golf course. In coordination with golf course management, this position will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining Audubon certification. In coordination with facilities, this position will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining Bee Campus certification.

Duties may include:
  • Identifying strategies that enhance native wildlife habitat and native pollinator populations while maintaining campus beauty;
  • Installing and managing native plants and plant beds;
  • Developing management plans for the campus landscape;
  • Identifying, evaluating, and treating potential pests and diseased plants in an environmentally-friendly manner;
  • Developing educational materials and events related to campus and regional native biodiversity;
  • Assisting with campus composting program;
  • Other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in horticulture, floriculture, plant science, botany, agronomy, landscape architecture, environmental science, sustainability, or a related field.
  • Four years of additional related work (8 total) may substitute for education.
  • Four years of work experience that demonstrates the ability to manage a landscape in an environmentally-friendly manner.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the Palouse regions growing conditions, native species, and environment.
  • Campus planning or public gardens experience.
  • American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS) Certification.
  • Knowledge of ACSP golf course certification process.
  • Knowledge of Bee Campus certification standard.



Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Extensive physical activity required. Applicants should be able to lift, carry and/or otherwise move over 50 pounds often.
  • Must have valid drivers license and ability to meet U of I driving requirements.
  • Work will be 75% outdoors in potentially inclement (very hot, very cold, or very wet) conditions.
  • Bending and stooping will be regularly required.
  • Working on uneven/ slope/ slick conditions.
  • Working with power tools.
