Description:
This position is responsible for coordinating a project area within the GA Emerging Infections Program. This person will oversee active, population-based surveillance within a defined area of the metro Atlanta area. Main responsibilities will include coordination of surveillance activities to include tracking report receipt, case reporting to CDC and project progress. Duties will also include supervising a team of 4 to 5 staff/students while conducting case ascertainment; completing audits in a timely manner; completion of case report forms; data entry, cleaning, and analysis of data. Experience with SAS is required. One year of experience conducting infectious disease surveillance is required.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • This position will coordinate all activities for an Emerging Infections Program (EIP) epidemiology surveillance project(s) or special studies within the School of Medicine.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate data acquisition, management, epidemiologic analysis, and transmission to CDC of project data using SAS, R, REDCap, SendSS, Access, etc.
  • Assigns job duties and mentors project staff and supervises staff as applicable.
  • Analyzes data and produces data, reports, and presentations.
  • Reviews laboratory audits, ensures accurate case ascertainment, and reviews medical records.
  • Evaluates data collection, quality, and management techniques.
  • Communicates with project partners including Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Georgia Department of Public Health, laboratories, infection prevention, and medical providers.
  • Provides input on all protocols, forms, instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provides data and status updates to investigators, regulatory bodies, grant, and contracts.
  • Complies with all ethical guidelines for scientific and human subjects research.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A master's degree in public health or related field from an accredited school, and two years of direct public health infectious disease epidemiology experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Epidemiology specialty preferred.
  • Emerging Infections Program (EIP) experience is preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Medical record abstraction experience.
  • Experience communicating routinely with doctors’ offices.
  • SENDSS experience.
  • RedCap experience.
  • Access and Excel proficiency.
  • C experience.
  • Knowledge of Micro lab terminology.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
