Job Description
It is with excitement that the WCSU offers the position of Equity Coordinator starting the 23-24 school year. We believe that integrating an equity coordinator is the next step in improving belonging in our communities. For the past three years, the WCSU has focused on improving equity for our students. This work has included implicit bias training for all WCSU educators, a Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) team, formation of an intergroup dialogue student group, and ongoing consultation with equity specialists.
There is a network of support for this position, including students, educators and leaders from across the SU. The School Board has also foregrounded their commitment and support by releasing the following statement:
The Windham Central Supervisory Union is committed to initiating and supporting policies, practices and curriculum that promote social justice, diversity, and inclusion. In celebration of our collective rich diversity, we also seek to affirm and elevate historically marginalized identities and experiences. We are dedicated to our belief that biased actions and hateful speech have no place in our learning community. Our commitment to social justice and educational equity will be reflected in our daily operations including recruitment, admission, student and staff retention, responsibility for modeling and reinforcing upstander behavior, school, and family support, hiring practices, curriculum, and respectful dialogue.
We strongly encourage BIPOC candidates to apply. Based on collaborative conversations with students, families and our educator community, we recognize the roles and impacts BIPOC educators have in students’ learning, growing and thriving in educational communities. Acknowledging that Vermont and our community are predominantly white, we are deeply committed to authentically fostering relationships with and supporting new BIPOC educators in our community while growing in our capacity to do so.
