POSITION: Eviction Prevention Advocate

EMPLOYED BY: Executive Director

REPORTS TO: Director of Community Development

CATEGORY: NON-EXEMPT, Temporary /Part-Time

Work locations: Alexandria and Fairfax (Fairfax County)

POSITION SUMMARY: FACETS offers prevention and diversion services to people without homes and at risk of homelessness. Our Eviction Prevention Team works with Fairfax County court-involved households at risk of eviction. The primary purpose of this position is to advocate for clients and shepherd them through the application process as a liaison with Fairfax County’s Coordinated Services Planning.

Qualifications:

· Ability to work 20 hours/week including 9:30am-4:30pm on Fridays and occasional evenings and weekends.

· Bachelor’s degree in social work, government, or related field or comparable work/volunteer experience.

· Good written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with individuals at all levels within and outside of the agency, good verbal communication skills in Spanish a plus.

· An energetic, dynamic and engaging personality with a strong work ethic and service orientation.

· Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

· Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail and time management skills. Must be able to track cases and follow-up as needed in a timely manner.

· Strong computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

· Must be able to pass criminal background and Child Protective Services background checks.

· Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

· Reliable transportation with proof of Insurance

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

· Conduct outreach at the Fairfax County courthouse each Friday and as needed to identify residents at or below 80% of the Area Median Income who are unable to make rent payments.

· Engage residents by phone and in person to explain the assistance available and help them assemble the documents needed to apply for assistance.

· Establish relationships with private landlords to elicit their cooperation in the rent assistance process. Help landlords understand the program and the documents they need to provide for the application.

· Effectively communicate with Fairfax County staff responsible for the program to resolve difficulties or address unique circumstances.

· Keep detailed records and submit reports of program activity and outreach, meeting established program goals.

· Work cooperatively with all FACETS staff to meet FACETS goals; participate in agency and program staff meetings to share ideas and program updates.

· Represent FACETS in the community, in accord with Agency Mission, Vision, and Code of Ethics.

· Other duties as assigned.

This is a temporary position with the potential to transition into a permanent position.
